The
first car accident that recall, was my brother in a three-way
accident. Luckily, I was not in the car when this happened, but
everyone healed perfectly in the physical aspect although the mental
aspect will always be damaged. Thankfully my brother was not the
cause of the accident, but technology use was. The gentleman that had
caused the accident was texting while driving. One of the three main
causes of motor vehicle accidents is distracted driving.

While
distracted driving is only one of the main causes of MVA’s, drug
and alcohol impairment as well as speeding are also major problems.
In order to reduce these causes, our roads should be monitored very
carefully by law enforcement for speeding vehicles. With more law
enforcement patrolling the roads, there will be less vehicles
exceeding the speed limit, limiting the amount of fatal car
accidents. Also, with more law enforcement out on the roads
distracted driving by cellphone use will also be reduced. With more
patrols on the road less civilians will be likely to use cell phones
and speed. With drug and alcohol impairment while driving, the best
way to prevent this is teach the citizens about the consequences if
it happens, then holding the criminals accountable to their actions.

After
all of this, the importance to drivers ed is immense. By
teaching new drivers the rights and the wrongs of the road could
definitely decrease the number of casualties. Showing new drivers,
the consequences of distracted driving and impaired driving, with
graphic pictures and evidence from fatal accidentals may show them
that the behavior of distracted driving can be very dangerous. Seeing
how gruesome the evidence is, new drivers may take that into
consideration to protect themselves out on the dangerous roads. One
thing that was taught in drivers ed was that while driving you
have to be a careful driver as well as a defensive driver. Meaning
watching were you are driving as well as the neighboring drivers
around you.

There
are many ways I can contribute to a safer way of driving. This
includes having my full attention on the roads at all times. Abiding
by the laws of the road; no speeding, no texting while driving, and
no impaired driving. Driving can be a very scary task, but by
following the rules of the road and be attentive, many of the scares
may dissipate.
