Being
A Safe Driver

Being a safe driver is more
than what meets the eye. In order to reduce the rate of deaths as a
result of driving drivers ed plays a big role because it not
only teaches the basics but it also teaches the alternatives. Ones
foundation is always better when rooted and the the tree grows
healthier. Without drivers ed the simple things like how many
points before your license gets revoked wouldn’t be known. Things
that are general knowledge but not common knowledge would not be know
if there was no drivers ed.

Some steps that can be taken in
order to reduce the rate of deaths as a result of driving are 1. Make
it a requirement/ law that ALL drivers and driving students attend
drivers ed, 2. Drivers wear your seatbelts and ensure that any
and all passengers are wearing their seatbelts, 3. Pay attention to
the road and not your phone, and lastly 4. Require all drivers
education to teach counter measures for crashes and accidents that
can help prevent fatal injuries. It will be hard to completely stop
deaths by driving but it should be more reasonable to reduce it. I
know many people who were in car accidents in my family and I
personally was also in a car accident. In my case my dad was driving
safe the car that hit us was not. My stepfather used to drive very
irresponsibly so much so to the point that I would be scared to ride
with him and when I did ride with him I got motion sickness. After
experiencing the losing of his license, points on his license and his
car breaking down he finally changed and no longer drives
dangerously.

Steps that can be taken to be a
better and safer driver are 1. Don’t be overly cautious, and 2.
Stay focused. To elaborate on steps 1 and 2, being cautious as a
driver is expected and okay but overly cautious drivers can also
cause accidents because they pay too much attention and end up
focusing on one thing rather than the broader picture. As step 2 is
concerned the group chat on your phone is not so important that you
have to take your eyes off the rode to respond and if it is really
important, then signal to switch lanes and pull to the side to avoid
causing both traffic and an accident. Steps 3 and 4 are to stay alert
and be sensible. Elaborating on 3 and 4, staying alert means being
able to see everything using your eyes to see everything even when
looking straight ahead.

As for step 4, If you know you
are too tired to drive then do not drive do not attempt to drive. The
same goes for if you are under the influence because the biggest
lesson you will learn as a driver is your actions effect more than
just you.
