Driving
Safety

We always have to
pay attention while we are on the road. Driving is a task that is
complex and demanding. We have to avoid all distractions. Here are
some rules for safe driving.

Drivers should keep
their eyes on the road. Distracted driving is the number one cause of
car accidents in the world. Distraction is a factor in eighty percent
of crashes (teensafe). This could be easily prevented if people would
pay attention to the road rather than their phone.

Drivers should
never text and drive. This is becoming a life-threatening norm.
Talking or texting while driving or checking social media takes eyes
and brains off the task of driving. Cell phone use while driving can
be deadly, especially for teen drivers.

Don’t drink and
drive. Alcohol is a major factor in road deaths. About twenty percent
of drivers killed each year have a blood alcohol concentration (BAC)
of over 0.05 (the legal limit) (ncbi). There should always be a
designated driver who does not drink.

Drivers should wear
seat belts at all times. Seat belts reduce the risk of death by
forty-five percent, and cut the risk of serious injury by fifty
percent. Seat belts prevent drivers and passengers from being ejected
during a crash. People not wearing a seat belt are thirty times more
likely to be ejected from a vehicle during a crash (cdc). It doesn’t
matter the destinations; put on a seatbelt before driving.

Don’t speed. The
speed limit is the maximum speed allowed in an area, so be sure to
travel below that limit. Driving above the speed limit or driving too
fast for the road and weather conditions is a major cause of crashes.

Driving
safely should be a number one concern behind the wheel. Be aware of
surroundings and don’t get distracted.
