Advances in Driving Technology: Be Up to Date with the New Driving Assistance Technologies

As technology advances, motor driving also evolves, therefore driver education is important to keep drivers abreast with new driving laws and techniques. Drivers need to be equipped with the new knowledge and skills necessary to confidently operate modern day vehicles safely and responsibly. The objectives of driver education should include, helping drivers: be up to date with new traffic rules, understand new driving technological features, improve safe driving strategies, develop better driving habits, and reduce deaths related to driving.

Driver education is useful in closing the gap between old and new driving systems. Before technology took over, there was only one independent driving component, which was practical. Now driver assistance tools such as parking sensors, satellite navigation systems, automatic brakes, forward collision warning systems, among others, are being introduced. It is imperative that drivers learn how to confidently use such tools to minimize accidents and safe lives.

Driver education helps drivers keep-up with current best practices in the field. Even the most experienced drivers have to learn the new rules of the game. Traffic law keeps changing, and safety strategies keep improving. For example, use hand-over-hand crossover of turning the wheel is obsolete because airbag safety is now made a high priority. Secondly, it is now unlawful to even make a free hands-on phone call while driving, research has shown that this practice increases the possibility of accidents thus leading to deaths. So, a refresher course will help drivers stay well-informed with the latest traffic laws.

Studies by NTSA found that more than 94% of collisions can be traced to something a driver did or failed to do. Thus, by minimizing such driver errors, car crashes can be significantly reduced. Technological advancements in driving can be used to combat driver errors. I will give a few examples. The forward collision technology can automatically calculate distance between my car and another, if the distance is too close, the system reduces the speed of my car to avoid a collision. A distracted driver could leave the right lane to collide with other cars, but with the assistance of the lane departure technology, the car is kept on the right lane automatically. There are drivers who don’t check where other cars are before changing lane which can cause collision, again the blind-spot detection feature can help drivers see all near-by vehicles at all times.

Also, while on the reverse, the cross-traffic alert system can automatically detect another car, pedestrian or object at the rear of your car then give an audible warning and also activate the emergency brake systems to avoid a collision. There are even new technologies that gives an audible warning sound upon detecting a driver’s unusual behaviors, such as falling asleep or drowsy. These new and advanced technologies should be adopted by all jurisdictions so as to reduce the number of deaths related to drivers.

Surviving a car accident can be a terrifying experience, especially when it leads to fatalities. In my case, it happened suddenly when another car appeared in front of my car while I was speeding, I had to swerve to avoid a collision. It ended up in a crash. However, I was able to survive the accident, thanks to a few factors that played a crucial role in my safety.

Firstly, I was fully alert and wearing my seatbelt which prevented me from being thrown out of the car or hitting my head on the dashboard. Secondly, my car had airbags, which activated on impact, cushioning the blow and reducing the severity of my injuries. By staying calm and focused, I was able to minimize the damage and increase my chances of survival. Overall, surviving a car crash requires a combination of safety features, quick thinking, and a bit of luck.

Recently, I learned about the technique of defensive driving which had made me a better driver. By being a defensive driver, I have to always wear my seatbelt, watch out for dangerous drivers, keep my hands on the wheel, keep a safe driving distance, and use my mirrors to stay aware of what’s going on around me.

In conclusion, being in the driver’s seat is more than just operating a vehicle, it’s also about taking control of our lives, and lives of others with great responsibility if we want to ensure the safety of ourselves and others on the road. So, let’s embrace the privilege of driving and use it sensibly, as the live you safe may be your own.
