The Safety of Drivers Knowledge

As newly licensed drivers begin their journey of adulthood and “freedom”, as we refer to it too as teenagers, we know very little of the real world when driving. The number of deaths increases tremendously each year because new drivers are unaware of the dangers people cause while driving. This is why driving safely is very important which everyone must learn to do. Being a well-educated driver is a huge part of safety to reduce crashes.

Driver education is very important to know as well as learning to reduce deaths while driving. Everyone knows they have to complete the written test before the behind-the-wheel test to get a license. However many people choose to abandon this knowledge because it was just to pass the test and in reality, there are “faster” or “better” ways to drive. This is completely false. Driver’s education is important because it keeps you safe and prevents you from causing a crash such as the speed limit, knowing when you can turn, average spacing between cars, checking mirrors and over the correct shoulder and so much more. As people say it’s a privilege to drive, not a right. However, we can’t control other drivers on how they drive, which is why we can keep ourselves safe by being well educated and implicating it while driving.

There are many ways we can practice safe driving to reduce crashes and it starts by knowing driving knowledge and safety to then implicate it in our driving. For instance, being more aware of your surroundings and focusing on the road. Most people believe they can be on the phone while driving because it’s just a quick text or even call so it doesn’t hurt right? Well, the average death for people using their phones or even being distracted is about 23% of car accidents. So it’s very important to pay attention while driving to keep yourself safe as well as other drivers. There are many other ways to practice safe driving like going the speed limit, being patient while driving, and being cautious with other dangerous drivers that may break the rules because we may be practicing safe driving but others are still reckless drivers.

I have witnessed reckless driving from my family because they are impatient and become angry with drivers who are following the rules and being safe. Ways they have been reckless is by driving over the speed limit to pass other cars. Something I took away from this is to just be patient while driving the speed limit because we’re all reaching our destination no matter what. However, if it’s a time issue to get to some place on time it’s our responsibility to know when to leave the house. Another thing that I learned from my dad is that when you are tired pull over or go somewhere close by to rest up because it can cause a crash if you aren’t fully conscious. My dad experienced a crash because he was coming back from work at two in the morning and he crashed into a power line. Luckily he was completely safe without a scratch, but he was terrified. He didn’t know he was going off the lane because he was dozing off. This is a great example of being more aware of how you feel as well as being aware of your surroundings.

Steps I take to be a safer driver is waiting when to go on turns because I know some reckless drivers do not care. Of course, go when it’s your turn but if you are unsure you can signal the other driver to go when at a stop sign. when turning into a street you can also wait until you know you will be safe to merge into a new street by waiting for all the cars to pass if there’s no safe gap to merge into. Another way to make the roads safer is to make sure all your lights work because it makes the roads safer for everyone else. It’s very important to make sure you use your blinkers while driving so other drivers can know which direction you are going.

All these small steps should be practiced while driving to reduce accidents that may result in death. Everyone should learn and practice driving education for the safety of themselves as well as others because it’s very important to know and understand this while driving. By implicating drivers’ education in our daily driving trips we can reduce the number of deaths caused by driving and it all starts with driving safely.
