An experienced I was in when I was in an accident with my family. One morning to school, my father was driving my older brother and younger sister and I to school when we were suddenly rear-ended by a distracted driver. My younger sister and I were in the back seat of a Toyota corolla, so even with our seatbelts on, we both felt the harshness of the impact on of the car. As soon as my father realized, the cause of the accident was due to the driver who rear-ended us by using her phone while driving. Fortunately, everyone had seatbelts and both my family, and the other driver came out the accident unharmed but shook. I catch myself at times thinking about the possibility of how much the outcome of the accident could’ve been if one small detail was changed.
It’s safe to say that I’ve prioritized the importance of driving every time I, or a family member plan to hit the road. I realized that it is important to keep your eyes on the road and being mindful of everything around you. Safe driving requires focus, attention, and the commitment of staying undistracted. By implementing the safe practices of staying focused on the road, speaking up about driving safely to family and friends can be relevant to protecting their safety of potential dangers while driving. I believe that it is important that everyone within a vehicle should always make sure that they put their safety before the car even moves. I always say “safety first” when entering any vehicle and I showcase it by always putting my seatbelt on first and making sure everyone has it on as well right before the driver plans on maneuvering the vehicle.
