Reckless Driving Takes Lives
Driving is an activity that many children and teenagers aspire to achieve. However, driving shouldn’t be as glorified as it is. It’s quite dangerous and can lead to very serious injuries or even death. Driving should always be taken seriously and no matter what circumstances should that change.
Driving is the most dangerous activity people do on a daily basis but people still have to do it. People aren’t able to walk everywhere. It’s quite impossible. So, it’s important to be able to drive but not just drive. Just driving is being reckless and not caring about yourself or others. While being on the road, it’s not just one person. There’s hundreds and each one of those hundreds have value in their lives.
When it comes to driving, there’s a big importance of driver education. Driver education helps younger people that are eager to drive learn the proper way of driving. It’s important to understand the rules of the road. Not only understanding the rules of the road, it’s important to learn them and apply them to your driving. In driving school, there’s drives with a licensed instructor. That helps the new driver learn the rights/wrongs of driving. With the proper education, it helps with less crashes. People will actually know how to drive and be a lot safer. Education is key to being responsible.
There’s many steps that can be taken to prevent crashes that are constantly happening on the road. Currently, the main cause for deaths that result in driving is texting. Texting while driving. When it comes to texting and driving it’s important to NOT text while driving. Driving should automatically have the full attention of a person. There’s never a time where a person’s eyes should come off the road. Even if the person thinks they can multitask, they can’t when it comes to driving. Putting down the phone and just driving safely is the best way to prevent crashes.
Although, texting while driving isn’t the only reason there’s many deaths. Another reason is drunk driving. Drunk driving has killed over 13,000 people in the last year. All those life’s gone because someone wasn’t being responsible. A step that can be taken to prevent deaths due to drunk driving is education those that are driving the damage they could possibly cause to one/the ones family. It’s heartbreaking to know that you caused all that damage. Another way to prevent drunk driving is being smart and finding a sober ride.
When it comes to safe driving, I take it really personally. I have had 2 people in my life pass away from another person being a reckless driver. It’s heartbreaking. Those people were my uncle and my aunt. Both from each side of my family. Mom’s and Dad’s. To start off, my uncle who had a passion for cars and motorcycles had a terrible accident. So, one night he was driving back home from work in his motorcycle. It was late yet it seemed all normal until it wasn’t. He was at a light and the car behind him didn’t see him and knocked him off his bike. He went straight up in the air and the car didn’t stop. While the car kept on driving it ended up hitting him again. The car never stopped to check on him. Tragically, my uncle was just there on the road, losing his life slowly. As time went on, lawforce found the person that was responsible for taking the life from my uncle. It appeared to be the person driving happened to be at a bar that night. He was severely intoxicated. So, when he hit my uncle he thought it was just an animal and didn’t have any remorse. That man that didn’t act responsabile took an innocent life away. The death of my uncle had a huge toll on the whole family. All those fun activities we used to do were just now gone. The happiness faded away. Even holidays were just not the same. It didn’t feel right. This all happened because one person decided he could drink and drive. It caused such an unbearable amount of pain.
Now with my aunt, her story was different. She ended up passing away in a car crash due to another person using their phone while driving. She was turning at a light like she would always do. The light turned green and she was already starting to turn. While she was turning, a car decided to run the light. It was known that this person checked to see if the light was green earlier but got on their phone right after. While the person was on their phone didn’t notice the light turned red. Going about 60 mph she hit my aunt. My aunt was hit on the driver’s side. That speed with the hit to the driver’s side resulted in my aunt having a brain bleed. It was so severe that the doctors couldn’t save her. She was only 25 years old. It was tragic.
Being a responsible driver is one of the most important skills a person should have. Taking away lives and leaving families with these burdens shouldn’t be okay. It shouldn’t be normalized. Texting and driving, Drinking and driving needs to come to a stop. Us as a society should consider the damages and what we can do to fix the damages. It’s not impossible to become wiser. It just takes us to be willing. I am willing and I want others to be too.
