Driver Education Essay
Being a new driver on the road can be terrifying for your first try. You have to make sure you follow every rule on the road and while doing that, you also have to watch out for other people who may drive recklessly. Being a new driver can be scary, but it is also important that all drivers have correct driving education and experience when it comes to the busy roads of today.
The importance of driving education is beneficial by the driver having information about how certain signs look like and what they mean when driving. Some new drivers, are not able to identify different signs of the road, thus leaving them to cause multiple accidents if the signs state danger. Another reason for this education would be having drivers’ etiquette when on the road with different drivers. If a person who doesn’t have this type of skill, it could be fatal for the driver and whoever else is in the car with them causes serious damages and maybe even death. Having these types of programs for young adults is important to attend, because now with COVID-19 children who use were able to have in person driving test now resort to signing off on a paper explaining they have “drove” for more than 20 hours. This gives people to almost lie about knowing the rules of the road and letting people get their driver’s license for knowing absolutely nothing when it comes to driving safety.
There are thousands of people of die due to fatal crashes on the road. Most of them can be from mistakes of the misuse of alcohol or drugs. Some steps that should be taken when it comes to driving would be knowing your surroundings and if you are unfamiliar with the area, then pull to the side of the road. Doing this, could prevent you from driving with no sense of direction and possibly having to swerve around cars to make your certain exit or merge. Another big issue when it comes to driving is cell phones. They have always been a distraction when it comes to driving on the road, from text messages to phone calls or even just to change the song on your playlist. To avoid any distractions, drivers should already have a playlist connected to their car before leaving to get on the road. If possible, they should also have their phone silence or only having a limiting contact to which people are able to contact them while they drive. If it is an emergency, the driver should pull into a safe place that is that not on the interstate and take the call. Another issue on the road is eating and driving. Some people cannot wait to eat when they have food in their car, especially if the food is nice and hot. People who eat and drive can have trouble focusing on the food because they may be distracted to what is in their bag instead of the road which can cause an accident to happen. In order to avoid this, drivers should park either at the restaurant or another place with a parking lot and enjoy their meal before heading back on the road. That way you can eat your food nice and hot and won’t have to end up in an accident because you couldn’t wait to eat your food.
I was involved in an accident where I was at fault and totally being irresponsible. I was working and I had just been given a lunch break. I was 16 at the time and I only had my permit. I had convinced my peer to let me drive her car across the street to pick up lunch. She agreed and handed me her keys. I wasn’t supposed to drive alone and honestly, I can admit that I wasn’t even comfortable attempting to drive. When I started the car, I was so excited about driving that I forgot all the fundamentals. I didn’t adjust settings for me, put my seat belt on, make sure to check my surroundings. I was just ready to go. I backed out of the parking space and hit a luxury vehicle! I was completely scared and emotional. I regretted getting behind the wheel of the car and I learned a very valuable and expensive lesson. After that incident, I truly became a better driver. I am much more cautious when I am driving. My parents have all the Spyware on my phone, so they can tell how fast I am going at all times, and I like being accountable for my safety. Whenever I get into my car, I now make sure that all occupants have their seat belts on. It’s important to remember to decrease the noise and distractions when driving. I also have an app that I turn on when I get in the car that silences all my messages and notifications so that I can focus on the road. My parents used to tell me that it’s not me that they worry about, its everyone else. I understand that statement now. After being on the interstate and driving more, I clearly see motorists disregarding laws and rules and being reckless. I have a younger sister, who is now learning how to drive, and I try to role model that being safe is also being cool. My generation can change the image of what is acceptable and start to make a difference in driver safety.
