That Day in May
Little did I know that the day in May 2021 would drastically change my life forever. After being quarantined for months, we were so excited to get out of the house and go shopping as we step into the convertible Mustang that my dad owned. My two sisters, mom and I get ready for a fun girl’s day out after slash couple very stressful months. As we leave our little house in Warren MI, I make sure to throw on my seat belt and we take off. Michael Jackson song bad is playing as my mom quickly speeds up to pass the yellow light. This is when my memory goes blank, the next thing I remember is some old lady running out of the flower shop on the corner to come help us out of the car. I feel dizzy I looked down and there’s green liquid spilling out of the car both of my sisters are in a wreck and my mom is on the phone with my dad shocked unable to speak. We had just been hit. I turned quickly to see the other lady involved in the accident and she’s running out of her car trying to collect all of her stuff that fell out she scares me she’s very very mad and looks as if she’s ready to come hurt us. What happens after that is a blur, I’m nervous scared and I just go home and cry for hours as I put a heating pad on my hurt shoulder to help ease the pain.
The next day when we’re finally able to process more my dad tells me more of the information. The lady we were in an accident with. Had a suspended license and was driving under the influence. Her careless decisions almost took the life of three young girls and their beautiful mother. This was the one and only time I’ve ever been in an accident and by far the most traumatizing day of my life never want to relive this day ever again.
Drivers’ education is very important in educating young drivers and older drivers not only how to drive but how to drive safely. It teaches us the basics that we need to know like how to turn what to do at different type of lights and what but each button in our car. Controls. Drivers’ education reduces the amount of reduces the amount of debt death as a result of driving in the mechanical in educational way.
Steps to be taken in order for there to be less death due to car accidents is something that’s trickier to accomplish but can be accomplished with hard work. One of the best ways to do this is by educating those the dangers of distracted driving or driving under the influence. We can do this by providing more education, especially two of those who had been driving for a while already and could just use a reminder. We can also provide more surveillance in the roads whether this is by cameras or more stationed police officers on the roads this can scare people into driving more safely and being more cautious on the road.
Me personally I haven’t had too many personal experiences is where people are driving carelessly or distracted. Something I can do better job of though, is double checking my friends and making sure everyone is buckled the music is turned down low, and everyone is choosing to be quiet, so the driver doesn’t get distracted easily. For me something I can do better is keeping my phone off and away. I am not one to play or use my phone while I’m driving but when I come to a stop light, I am one to change the song or text someone back which can lead in me not paying attention and not taking in my surroundings when I have the chance to.
Distracted driving careless driving is something that drastically needs to be improved in our country. Thousands of people are hurt every day. Due to careless and unsafe driving. As humans we need to unite together and spread the word and the dangers on distracted driving so, we can help save lives. We can do this in many ways. More education on driving, spending more money on more advanced driving systems or surveillance, and just reminding each other as humans how important our lives and other lives are. We can make a difference, change starts with us.
