Stay Educated
Driver’s Education is critical as many of us drive almost every single day of our lives. It is the most common way of transportation yet there are over thousands of accidents that happen daily due to people being ignorant or being uneducated when it comes to driving. Therefore, I think it is fair that we all take part in educating ourselves on the safety and the responsibilities of driving. Being educated on driving is extremely important, people might overlook certain rules or steps when being out on the road, forgetting the smallest thing could be dangerous. Which is why Driver’s Education needs to be acknowledged more often.
When I was around 8 years old me and my family were driving, on our way to buy groceries. Next thing I know my seatbelt locked, I felt genuine fear and vulnerability, my vision and thoughts were disoriented. A middled-aged man was speeding and crashed into us which led to a side collision accident. The accident could’ve been way worse, but we were lucky and weren’t harmed or injured. The car got damaged, but it’s expected after a crash. Even from memory the thought of going through that again is traumatizing and detrimental as I saw a car heading towards me and I felt the hit impact of the car. Experiences like these especially at a young age is what makes me want to be cautious when being out in the road.
I’m 16 now and terrified of learning how to drive, I constantly hear stories of people crashing and getting into accidents which doesn’t help my mindset at all. I always think I won’t be educated enough or properly enough to know what I’m doing. This is mainly due to the fact that my dad is extremely impatient and believes I should learn from him because it’ll be my best option. I on the other hand disagree, I’ve seen him lash out on my brother before when teaching or monitoring him when driving and it just seems overwhelming to deal with. Learning how to drive is something I need to start mentally preparing myself for, teens my age are talking about knowing how to drive or getting their permits, yet I know nothing about driving. Soon I will begin learning how to drive, and learn from other people’s mistakes so I can be safe.
Many individuals are often careless when it comes to driving, even something small as blasting music in the car could be dangerous. You could possibly mishear or not hear at all which causes you to not be aware of your surroundings. Small things such as being distracted by being on your phone, not looking at your mirrors or speeding is simply just irresponsible. We as a society can work to a safer environment on the road for everyone by being aware. We need to act and be knowledgeable, especially to keep future generations safe such as young children now as they are more prone to being injured during collisions in accidents. There are too many deaths due to car crashes, and we need to reduce them, this could be done by cutting distractions, not speeding, being ignorant, or being under the influence of alcohol. Car crashes can also happen due to there something being wrong with the vehicle and not human error. We can still reduce the deaths by controlling what is avoidable.
As the years go by, death/injury rates are increasing each year by thousands, car crashes are one of the most common causes of death among human population. There is at least about 50 million people that are injured or disabled due to road traffic crashes worldwide. 25-50% of car accidents are caused by distracted drivers, risk factors such as drunk driving and texting. Drivers can easily be distracted or careless which is why it is important to always pay attention and be aware of your surroundings and other individuals while driving as teens are at a much higher risk of being injured or even killed during car crashes.
Whatever way you see it, avoiding cars or driving is inevitable. So why not educate yourself to stay safe, taking driving courses could seriously refresh your mind and expand your knowledge even further. Driver’s Education doesn’t only educate us, but it helps us create a society where we can drive safely on the road and stray away from reckless behavior that’ll cause harm and death for those who are irresponsible. Driver’s Education is an investment, and one I am willing to make in order to keep myself safe when driving in the future. Having the right support and help from others is crucial as well.
