The Importance of Driver’s Education and Other Factors of Safe Driving

The importance of driver education in reducing the number of deaths because of driving is that it informs drivers of the safety precautions that are needed for keeping roads and other drivers safe. In driver’s education we are taught to drive for ourselves and those around us. The education formal and hands on approach of driver’s education teaches us to be hyper aware of our surroundings. By requiring future drivers to read the Driver’s Handbook for their state, they are educated about road rules as it relates to signs, lights, making turns, weather conditions and other factors that can impact the way we drive. It is extremely important that everyone is educated on the basics of driving and are following a uniform set of rules to insure everyone’s safety. I also believe drivers education helps in reducing the number of deaths because of driving by informing drivers of laws and policies that are in place for their safety and everyone on the road which are enforced by the police. By informing drivers of their rights and the rules they should follow through education, the police have a roadmap of how to assign traffic citations and further educate drivers of their errors by explaining to them what they did wrong. In most cases, drivers must undergo more education when they receive violations which helps prevent deaths by directly correcting wrong behavior.

Some steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving is emphasizing safe driving in the community. This can be done by city officials, advertising and community volunteers who take the time to educate people about the importance of safe driving through impactful demonstrations or reading material. Commercials that feature the consequences of car crashes are highly effective in instilling both fear of death and the desire to be a good driver in people. I think another step that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving is keeping roads clear and safe. I have seen so many roads that need construction and others that are constantly under construction. These conditions impair the safety of roads for drivers, increasing their risk of crashing and dying. I think if we focused on completing construction projects without too many delays, we can create a safter environment for drivers.

I was involved in near death experience in 2011 when I crashed my car into the guardrails on the interstate and totaled my car. This was by far the scariest and eye-opening experience of my life. While I consider myself a safe driver, I now know that accidents can happen within a blink of an eye. The short amount of time in which I lost control of my car was more than enough time to change my life forever. I was very grateful that no one else was harmed during the accident, but the threat of my life was heart shattering. Luckily, everyone came to my aid, and I was able to go to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries. I think this car accident helped me become a better driver because not only do I take my time getting to my destinations, I also ensure my car is current on inspections so there are no incidents that are out of my control. It made me think about things I never considered before about driving safely. I was happy that my driver’s education taught me the importance of seat belts and gaining control over a vehicle, so I was able to control some of the impact of the crash and save my life with the seat belt. Unfortunately, I have seen friends and family members drive irresponsibly by speeding or not wearing a seatbelt. I have also seen them make illegal turns and not signal before a turn. These little actions can be the difference between a minor traffic violation and someone losing their life.

One steps I can take to be a better and safer driver as well help others become safer is to always drive with the flow of traffic and within speed limits. By doing so, I can make sure that no one is hurt if I must make any sudden stops or any other actions that would cause an accident. Another step I can take is refresh my knowledge of driving rules to ensure that I am doing everything correctly and decrease the chances of being stopped by a cop. I can help others become safer drivers by informing them of their wrongdoing if I’m riding along. Overall, being a safe driver and ensuring the safety of others starts with me and my knowledge of driving. By receiving driver education and practicing what I learned I can make sure that I am safe, and others are as well.
