Driver’s Education

What would be a world without Drivers Education? There would be nothing but chaos and road ragers everywhere. The roads will not be safe without Drivers Education to teach other individuals about road safety. Safety is important, especially when driving on the roads where there are hundreds of other cars. Safety is like wearing your seat belt and going through the lights and not the back streets. Being aware of your surroundings and paying attention to the signs to guide and tell you what is ahead.

Driver’s education is important because it teaches you how to properly be on the road and not use bad habits that you learned or picked up from others or yourself. By not picking up bad habits it is easier to learn the proper technique and rules from the instructors. When learning from the instructor first you gain the right instructions to be on the road instead of bad habits. This helps reduce death numbers because you are following proper driving rules and regulations.

The steps that can be taken if following the rules such as staying alert for signs and stop signs or the signs by traffic lights. Always be aware of your surroundings and the cars around you. If you can not see the other lane before making a turn do not go, have patience. Know common road courtesy and do not rage.

A personal experience I have, is when I was 16, and was involved in a car accident. After school on my way home, I was in a two way left turn lane, with my blinkers on preparing to turn. In front of me, on the opposite side of the road, another car was trying to get on a road that was to my right. The car was blocking my view of upcoming traffic. When I thought it was clear, I took my turn, and another driver quickly made impact with my passenger side door. My car was forced completely to the right, straight down the opposite lane. The ceiling airbags had deployed, and I was briefly knocked out, my head hitting the rim of the driver side window. I recall the feeling of sharp pain on my temple, and the light of my surroundings burning out from my vision. For a moment, I didn’t know where I was, but the adrenaline was quick to help me to my senses. I got out of my car and immediately went to check on the other person involved. Me and the other driver did not suffer any serious injuries, and she called the police for assistance. My first thought was to call my grandma, and let her know. I was living with her at the time, and could rely on her as my legal guardian. My aunts however, were the faces I saw soon after, meeting me on the road. They had been at my grandmother’s house, and were quick to respond when they heard what had happened. After looking at the damage of my vehicle, the back passenger side door was pushed in, and my back light broke. The accident, although minor, proved to have a lasting traumatic impact. It took me a month before I attempted to drive on the road again, feeling as if the lights were glaring, and a tightness in my chest. I have not been able to drive again, due to the physical stress which then leaves me incapacitated. Since then, I haven’t driven in over two years. Even now I have yet to drive in general, but will when I absolutely need to. From the accident I have learned to make sure to have patience and if I can not properly see ahead of me, I will not go. Always take the lights for safety and not the back roads if not familiar or confident enough.

Another personal experience that I had to go through due to irresponsible driving is my Mothers death. She passed away in a car accident due to not wearing her seatbelt and the driver not paying attention to the road ahead. Due to her death when I got into my accident I cried and panicked wondering if it was my time. When the adrenaline left my body I was calmer and still shaken up.

Steps that could help avoid an accident are following rules and always just being patient. A lot of times many people would rage and look away from the road for a bit. Before they realize they are in an accident that could result in serious injury or turn fatal. It is good to keep in mind that the individuals in both cars involved have a family to go back home to or they have an important someone or pet to go home to as well. Either way it is not worth the risk even if you are racing down the highway or want an escape from reality by speeding. There are other people who are in other vehicles on the same road. Following proper rules will help avoid accidents that could cause death.
