Driving educated
Drivers education plays a vital role in reducing the number of deaths from driving, whether it be accidental or, for example, from texting.By educating new drivers the road is deemed safer. For these individuals, having fundamental knowledge, skills and a positive attitude is crucial to responsible driving. The main objective of drivers ed is not only to pass the test, but to create a safe environment on the road.
I, for one, took driver’s education over the summer of my junior year and it greatly impacted my driving skills as of now, even a year later. I was taught certain road signs meanings and other courtesies of the road while driving. Yet, the biggest and most impactful part of driver’s ed was being able to go behind the wheel with an instructor and get that hands-on learning experience.
Drivers ed ensures individuals understand the laws of traffic so that they can obey them properly and prevent accidents caused by misunderstanding. For example, four way stops are commonly misunderstood. I still see this now, so it’s important that we understand how they work so everyone remains safe.
Furthermore, drivers ed emphasizes safe driving practices like maintaining a safe stop distance where you can see the tires of the car in front of you, as well as a safe following distance to avoid any potential hazards or actions. Practical lessons and risk management are another crucial aspect of drivers ed.Through the various courses you learn about the influence of drugs and alcohol and how it will impact your driving which helps prevent accidents and ultimately save lives.
All in all, these lessons and guidance, as well as the crucial hands on experience prepare drivers for the railroad and better the experience, while keeping driving safe.
A few steps I would say that can be taken in order to reduce driving related deaths would certainly be stricter laws for the road. This includes fines and penalties for people that violate laws. Driving distracted or under the influence are great examples of that. By providing heavier penalties it would idealistically reduce the casualties on the road.
Furthermore, campaigns and safety features for vehicles could help. Educating individuals on the dangers of driving recklessly while showing the benefits of driving safely can change their attitudes. Additionally, having safety features in vehicles is important because it can protect lives. Examples of this include anti lock braking systems or driving assistant systems.
The biggest and most realistic way I see driving-related deaths decreasing is through ongoing driver education which can be open to all ages and not just to the 15 to 16 year olds that are learning how to drive. It’s important to have refreshed knowledge as some traffic laws can change. Therefore, if we continue this education even years after licenses are obtained, we can make the road safer for everyone. As someone that has taken driver’s ed, I understand the impact and have seen car accidents myself. So, I know how important it is that we are all educated on road safety.
Lastly, steps that can be taken in order to become a better and safer driver include staying focused, being aware of speed limits, and maintaining proper maintenance on your vehicle. It’s important to stay focused when you’re on the road because your constant attention is needed. This avoids potential hazards on the road. Distractions can be as simple as a person walking on the sidewalk, eating, and even the radio. Another important thing to note is the speed limits. These are crucial to know and follow while driving because if you’re going too fast or even too slow, it can result in a ticket or fine, so being cautious of the speed limit is important.
Additionally, maintaining regular maintenance on your vehicle can prevent mechanical issues that could later be a danger to you on the road. Examples of this include oil changes, tire changes, gas, engine checks, etcetera.
Other steps that can be taken that are important to note are remaining calm while you’re driving, always wearing your seatbelt, and checking your vehicle before you start driving. I would also recommend practicing staying alert and safe distance from other cars to avoid impairment. This does not encourage you to be afraid and constantly cautious but driving is a privilege and must be used responsibly.
By incorporating these steps into your driving routine, you can become a safer driver and help others as well. Educating friends and family about safe driving practices by leading by example can create a safer road, ultimately reducing the number of driving-related deaths.
