In the Driver’s Seat Scholarship

The importance of driver education is very important in reducing the number of deaths as a result of driving. This is because driving education can help people understand the rules of the road and how to safely drive on the roads. Drivers ed can help people understand the importance of seatbelts, traffic lights, speed limits and other things on the road that help keep everyone on the road safe. It gives people an education of what to be aware of and how to handle a dangerous situation that will in the long run keep both the driver and other drivers in the area safe. Driver education helps people understand how to stay alert and safe when driving and to deal with dangerous situations, whether it be another dangerous driver on the road or dangerous weather conditions. The ability to have driver education can help reduce the number of deaths as a result of driving, as well as keep everyone safe whenever on the road.

There are many steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths on the road related to driving. Many deaths occur from drunk driving or speeding mainly. Firstly, one of the best ways to reduce deaths on the road is to not drink and drive. If you are out at a party or a bar and drinking, ask someone to pick you up or assign a designated driver who doesn’t drink if out with others. Don’t try and drive drunk as it increases the chances of a crash that can result in fatality. Drugs go hand in hand on the same lines as alcohol, don’t drive under the influence. Another way to reduce the number of deaths is not speeding. Speeding is another cause of most accidents on the road. The best thing to do is not speed, even if you are late to something. Getting somewhere late is a lot better than getting into an accident and possibly hurting or killing someone just to get there early. Another way is to not drive when feeling tired. If you are on a long trip, take breaks between, stop at a hotel or a convenience store. Don’t try to drive while tired as the lack of energy could cause you to fall asleep behind the wheel or not be fully aware of your surroundings. Distractions while driving can also be something that increases the number of deaths. When a text message pops up or there is something distracting you, do not look at it. If you avoid your phone or something outside, it could help keep you more focused on the road and prevent an accident from occurring. The final way to decrease the number of deaths while driving is to drive carefully during weather conditions. Roads can get slippery and the view of the road can get foggy. In these situations during rain or snow, it’s important to drive slowly and cautiously. Doing so can reduce the chance of hydroplaning or slipping and reduce the chance of an accident.

Personally I have not been involved in a car accident myself. I always pay attention to the road at all times and never get distracted while driving. I also have never seen my friends or family drive irresponsibly.

There are many steps you can take to be a better and safer driver, as well as help others become safer on the road. Many of these have been mentioned above, including don’t drink and drive, don’t speed, and don’t get distracted. However, the main thing you can do to be a better driver is to be observant and watch everything carefully, the main things being things on the road. When driving, always remember to stop at red lights, and not to turn on red unless allowed to do so. At stop signs, always look in all directions, and wait until it is safe to go, never run through a stop sign. When on different roads, make sure to follow the posted speed limit to ensure you don’t get into a car accident. Always keep your eyes on the road, if your phone buzzes, put it somewhere you can’t look at it, that way you can have your full attention on the road. Never drive while tired, always pull over or stop at a hotel and get sleep and food/water, it is much safer to do that. Always keep a good distance between you and the car in front, so you have time to break if they break. Lastly, always be cautious when driving in weather conditions, being aware of ice or heavy rain. All these can help make you and others better and safer drivers, keeping everyone on the road safe.
