Driving safety
Driver education plays a crucial role in reducing traffic-related fatalities by equipping individuals with the necessary skills, knowledge, and awareness to drive safely. Driver education programs teach not only the rules of the road but also defensive driving techniques, hazard recognition, and the dangers of distractions, impaired driving, and reckless behavior. Young and inexperienced drivers, in particular, benefit from structured training, as it helps them develop safe driving habits and confidence behind the wheel.
To decrease the number of traffic fatalities we can do a number of things. Like having a drivers ed segment in a high school health class so that even if the student is planning on getting their license they still know about drivers ed. By putting drivers ed in schools it can educate young drivers about the rules of the road and can cause less fatalities. Other things can be a more enhanced driving education, like using simulators, defensive driving techniques and education on impaired and distracted driving can help safe driving. More public awareness about unsafe driving can help safe driving. Things such as distracted driving, or drived while you are tired can be included in these campaigns. I think there are many ways that society can reduce traffic fatalities. It’s just going to take that one person to take a stand and create a campaign to promote safe driving. I have had my license for a while so I’m not up to date on what’s going on in drivers ed, but I think using simulators on younger drivers can kinda scare them straight so they are or educate on what it’s like to drive impaired or distracted. If we focus more on educating young drives about the dangers of the road then that can lead to less traffic fatalities.
With my experience in car crashes and while driving distracted drivers or frantic driving. The one time I was in a car crash the driver was distracted and very frantically trying to figure out where to go since the driver was not in a calm state of mine they drove into oncoming traffic and hit another car. So with that experience and from my personal experience while driving it’s important to stay calm and not panic just like what they teach you when you are learning how to swim. Everytime I have been driving and I panic or start acting frantic it usually leads to an unsafe position. Distracted driving is another issue I have come across whether it’s me getting distracted or someone else. In my car I have a backup camera which I love but sometimes I can’t see everything going on so I will almost hit something and I think this is a problem for many people with these cameras. So putting wider angle cameras in cars can endorse safer driving.
I pride myself on being a good driver but there is always room for improvement. One thing I can work on is not speeding. I have a problem with going over the speed limit because I am impatient and I want to get somewhere fast and that has led me to be put in some unsafe situations while driving, like having to slam on my breaks or change lanes really fast. A lot of kids my age go on their phone while they are driving and I do too, which is something I should stop because I am not good at it. Since I am left handed I have to hold my phone in an awkward position while I’m driving or even reach across to grab my phone. One thing that has helped me with this is getting a new car that has a touch screen where I can answer phone calls and change to music from the steering wheel.
Overall safe driving is very important because if you are driving recklessly you can put yourself and other people at risk. It is really important to educate yourself on how to be a safe driver and you should encourage other people to drive safely. Taking steps like enhancing driver education, public awareness campaigns, and law enforcement penalties can all lead to safer driving. With the crazy world we live in, traffic fatalities have gone overlooked but innocent people are dying from unsafe drivers and something needs to be done so the roads can be a safe place. What needs to be done first is educating young drivers to drive safely and educate them on the dangers on unsafe driving, by education them on safe driving they can develop safe driving habits that will lead to a safer road.
