2025 Drivers Education
The importance of driving education in reducing the number of deaths that occur because of driving is extremely important. There is not a news channel in my county that does not report at least two to three accidents a day. Whether it is due to distracted driving, careless driving, or inhibited driving because the driver is impaired there are way to man accidents that have acquired and could have probably been prevented. With something like heavy machinery operating such as driving a car around town you should be doing so responsibly and obeying the laws of the road. I believe that one of the steps that should be taken is drivers’ education should be a requirement for high school aged children that are old enough to drive. A teacher preparing for a student might be a little better than a family members or friends teaching them.
And being in a controlled environment and taught the necessary driving skills and safety might encourage the students to be a more focused and safer driver. Also, the length of a person driving with a permit until they receive their licenses. To make sure those hours are being done responsibly maybe require the permit holders to drive with someone that is more official than someone that is just letting you drive in their car or signing hours that you did not complete. Driving is a very serious privilege, and it should be harder to make sure that the people that are driving around are responsible people that know driver safety and obey the laws of driving. Another idea would be for college and high school students along with first time drivers to have a breathalyzer machine that I know that people that repeatedly drive drunk and Dui are required to blow into before their car even start. To teach the importance of driving sober and not intoxication to keep other drivers safe as a precaution.
And stricter laws on intoxicated drivers so people will stop breaking the law and continuing to get behind the wheel after drinking or using drugs. If there were stricter punishments on first time offenders’ people would fear going to jail or potentially prison for driving under the influence. I had a close friend that was more like a little brother than my own blood relatives and he made a bad choice several years ago and decided to get in a car with a drunk driver. He made an even worse decision by riding in the very back area of the truck that had no seat belts and there was not even a seat. Unfortunately, it did not go so well because we lost my little brother. I watched growing from a little kid to a young adult and then was gone just like that with no warning and no ability to press rewind and change it from happening.
Watching his family and friends be lost without him and still hurting from him being gone because he decided to make a mistake and trust a person that probably drove a dozen times without crashing. So, trusting that he never crashed before why would this time be any different? What about the level of alcohol consumed, or the weather conditions, or maybe the winding mountain highway road that was slippery and dark. We have seen and heard this scenario played out a thousand different ways, circumstances, and situations. But the result eventually is always the same it eventually will end in death. I am scared to drive a car and have only done it a couple of times and I was scared to death the whole time.
So, I have figured it would be safer for me and others if I do not drive instead, I resort into walking, public transportation, or even paying others to drive me places. I may never know the enjoyment or freedom of driving but at least I will never have to live with the resentment of driving and hurting someone. I refuse to be responsible for causing an accident and changing the lives of the people involved. The way I practice safer driving is having others that are responsible drivers to drive me places I need to go. And I actively share these stories with people to inform others and pull them up on their awareness of the problem. Hoping that my story gives them perspective and keeps them from making choices that could lead to extremely bad mistakes like my little brother.
