Suddenly,
It Only Takes a Minute

Car
accidents can happen in the blink of an eye and someone can be
injured or worst killed. It can happen suddenly and it only takes a
minute. I was riding in a car with my aunt and that is what happened.
One moment everything was fine, the next we were jammed up behind a
truck with a big advertising sign on it. The driver of the truck
applied its brakes suddenly and you know the rest. It was scary and
luckily no one was hurt. Perhaps it was my first lesson about
driving. It taught me not to follow close behind trucks or any other
vehicles. Like most teens I wanted to get behind the wheel since I
was young. I took drivers ed because it would teach me how to
drive, safety measures and the laws that govern driving. These are
all key ways to reduce the number of deaths caused by driving. When
someone else is in the car with me I always take caution because you
never know what will happen. Risking someone else’s life and mine
is not why I wanted to learn how to drive. I wanted to learn how to
drive to make sure I’m always aware with no distractions. When I
got into an accident with my aunt that day, I was not only shooken up
but it made me nervous getting back in the car because I didn’t
want anything else to happen. By my aunts face, I could tell she was
very upset because not only did we jam up behind someone else’s car,
but she couldn’t believe how she managed to risk our lives like
that. Even though her eyes were looking forward doesn’t mean she
was necessarily paying attention and that’s a major key when being
on the road. Ways to avoid deaths related to driving are to pull into
traffic slowly, always double check your mirrors, and pull further
away from someone if you feel unsafe by that person’s car. It’s
important to always be alert when you’re driving in a parking lot.
Some people behind the wheel are so focused on finding a parking spot
they don’t pay attention to their surroundings. When people drive
and stop at a stop sign, at times they’re going too fast and they
have to step on breaks fast jerking the car. That’s a safety
mistake that a lot of people do on a daily basis. There’s a speed
limit for a reason, and it isn’t there to be broken it’s there
for everyone to obey. Exceeding the speed limit means you’re
driving faster than what’s safe for that road. When people do that
they’re not putting others at risk and the faster you go the less
time you have to avoid an accident. Learning to drive the right way
is something everyone needs to understand and drivers ed
teaches that and more. The main purpose of drivers ed is to
provide people with skills and knowledge needed for vehicle safety as
a driver and as a pedestrian which is why drivers ed is very
important.
