Driving to the Future Together
Driving
to the Future Together
With
both license and keys in hand, the endless possibilities of
travelling arise. I had studied practically the entire driver’s
manual to prepare myself for the test. The joy and excitement that
came from passing the test gave me the opportunity to adventure
outside and finally have some freedom. However, even with a license,
it is still a priority we all follow the rules of the road. One small
mistake can lead to a chain of consequential actions that may define
the rest of our lives.
To
reduce the number of deaths related to driving, we need to address
the full compliance of the rules of the road. The number one reason
why deaths occur in driving accidents is due to distracted driving.
Putting away distracting objects will greatly improve focus on
driving. We also need to address drunk driving. People have had their
lives cut short by drunk drivers. By simply preventing the drunk
driver from even sitting in the driver’s seat will greatly create a
safer environment for everyone. Most importantly, obeying the rules
and regulation have proven to reduce car related deaths.
I
was sitting in my room at the time of the accident. My father was
mowing the lawn outside. I was mindlessly scrolling until a loud
screech and the house shutter interrupted. I quickly stood up and ran
under a table thinking it was an earthquake. I was wrong. Hearing
another quick screech, I went outside to see if anything had fallen
or broke. Instead of expecting water lines ruptured or power lines on
the ground, I was met with tire marks that led to the side of the
house. I check on my family to see if everything was fine, only to
remember my father mowing outside when it occurred. He was missing.
His lawnmower in ruins. I had thought of the worst case scenario.
Thankfully, I see him running back to the house yelling the license
plate and car model. A car had been doing donuts at our intersection
and had crashed into my house, nearly killing my father. It was this
personal accident that truly changed my perspective on how even while
not in the driver’s seat we all are susceptible to a car accident.
We
should never take the rules set in place for granted. Obeying the
laws and rules of the road are made to prevent injuring or death. We
need to ensure the safety of everyone around us by signaling,
stopping at stop signs, and being mindful of others. One reckless
driver can have an impact on countless people. It is not worth the
risks of running red lights or speeding. Obtaining a license does not
permit you to drive any way you wish. A license signifies the ability
to perform the necessary steps to be safe while driving. Respecting
that simple ideal will change the lives of people everywhere across
the world. So let’s band together and drive to the future together!
