Is the Destination Worth More Than A Life?
Seniors
think of their graduation day as being a joyous event to celebrate
their accomplishment of completing high school. Their thoughts filled
with planning their appearance and attending which after-parties, but
I didn’t get that privilege. Instead of carefree thoughts of which
after-party I’m going to attend, I dealt with frazzled
adrenaline-filled thoughts of dealing with being in a car accident.
My T-bone collision turned what was supposed to be a joyous day to
downhearted in a matter of seconds. The collision could have been
avoided if the driver that ran into me would have either waited for
the green arrow allowing her to safely turn or just waited for the
clearing to be free of cars instead of rushing the turn to get to her
destination and consequently hitting me in the process.
When
people decide to drive, they have to take into consideration other
people around them and themselves because if not it invites people to
drive recklessly and inadvertently harm or kill someone. My mother
would always say that when you drive you hold other people’s lives
in your hands as much as other drivers hold yours, which I would
always give a nonchalant okay and go to my destination. But her words
never rung truer than when I got into my car accident and when my
friend got into her car accident. If more people took more
consideration into paying attention to other drivers on the road and
obeying the rules of the road instead of single-mindedly just
focusing on getting to their destination, there would be fewer car
accidents occurring in America. This would occur because people would
acknowledge that their every improper action performed while driving
such as being on their phone, intoxicated driving, speeding, and
etc., comes with consequences ranging from damaged vehicles to death.
If I were to have died, it would have gone from an exuberant day to a
desolate day all because someone was more focused on getting to their
destination than taking account that when they drive they hold not
only hold their life in their hands but others around them.
Thusly
car accidents occur due to people’s overconfidence in their driving
ability which leads to performing reckless actions or merely having
improper driving skills. Most of these issues can be resolved by
receiving a drivers ed because drivers ed provides
drivers with the proper knowledge of how to safely and properly
maneuver their vehicle in various situations. Where without this
education, it could result in either people getting harmed or both
parties’ vehicles damaged. Besides participating in driver
education if people were more aware of the long-lasting damage,
financially and physically, that they can cause to others by
recklessly driving and put more care into people’s lives instead of
the narrow-minded view that we usually have when we step into the
car, the destination, it will eliminate reckless behavior that
impacts the victim like my friend that still walks with a limp due to
her car accident.
