Driving: The Big Freedom and Scare

Sitting in the driver’s seat, millions of things go through our minds. Speed limit, cars next to us, in front of us, where do we need to go, there are so many things that we have to keep track of. Learning how to drive and driving is quite simple, I believe the complications come when we are on the road and there are so many things to pay attention to and keep track of. When we start to learn about driving, we have to read many rules and be extra careful since we are new drivers, but I believe that this extra carefulness keeps us safer and reduces the number of accidents. As we drive for years, we start to get very comfortable and sometimes don’t all the rules. For example, many parents have been driving for 20 or 30 years now, maybe even more, they are extremely used to driving and may not abide to every single rule out there. Even my own parents don’t at times. When this topic comes up towards the teenage drivers, many say they are unsafe drivers when in reality they are not, “Teens taking driver education are less likely to be involved in crashes or to receive a traffic violation during their first two years of driving,” (newsroom, edu). The more we study the rules and driver education the more safe we will be and can avoid accidents and deaths. As a fairly new driver myself, I have had some incidents where I almost got into an accident, and these incidents have made me more careful but also more scared. I believe, knowing myself I need to keep practicing driving so I can comfortable because I can’t always drive so scared, I need to be more confident in my driving. With our fast paced world today, many of us (including me) are not very patient. Driving around, I see many new student drivers with stickers on their cars saying to be patient and careful as they are student drivers. I used to have these stickers on my car as well, and many drivers behind would honk at me or purposefully drive irrationally and try to scare me. If I am being honest, 9 out of 10 times they did make me scared. I completely understand for those of us who need to get somewhere and are in a hurry but they can always move into another lane and get to where they need to be, but I don’t understand why people would purposefully try to scare a student driver. Not only does this put that driver’s life at stake but they don’t know how the student driver is going to react and what will happen. There is a possibility of a accident to happen or something even worse. And that can complicate to many more things. In conclusion it is much safer to just be careful and put some space between you and other cars. Let’s make driving more safe and go explore places!!
