Driving Safely
Properly educating a driver is crucial to decreasing the number of deaths caused by reckless driving. By having him or her learn the appropriate way to handle a vehicle will vastly decline the likely hood of any accidents occurring.
One way to reduce the number of deaths is to increase the difficulty of the driver exams. When browsing through YouTube, I came across a video comparing the US driving exam to England’s. Their death rates were significantly lower due to their driving exam being a lot more complicated. A second way is after three or four accidents; the driver must repeat the driving exam. A three-strike system will cause the driver to be more aware of his or her actions. While in high school, I was surrounded by thoughtless drivers, racing around, and witnessed many accidents occurring in and around the school parking lot. The three-strike rule isn’t only for reckless drivers; some drivers need a little extra practice. My cousin got her license, then proceed to get into five different accidents. However, she continues to believe she only caused two. The third and last way to decrease the number of deaths is to mandate a driver to attend an anger management course if they are involved in a road rage incident. Having them complete the program will decrease the chances of the driver repeating the offense due to him or her learning how to handle their anger.
When I was in second grade, I was in an accident with my parents. Although there were multiple vehicles involved, all injuries were minor scrapes and bruises. The two cars in front of our truck came to a sudden stop; we were able to stop in time due to my dad following at a safe distance. However, the three vehicles behind us were following too close, unable to stop, they rear-ended our truck and sent us into the car in front of us. Everyone could have avoided the accident if the driver in front hadn’t used his phone and the people behind us kept the proper distance. My cousin, mentioned earlier, not only backed into a mailbox and rear-ended a car; she also hit two deer and sideswiped another vehicle. You can say she was an accident magnet. Now she takes her time and spends a lot more time looking at the road than the things in her vehicle.
One way I can be safer is to adjust the radio and the A/C before I put my vehicle in drive. It would eliminate one more distraction and the risk of an accident when I take my eyes off the road. When sitting in the passenger seat, I enjoy helping the driver. Having an extra pair of eyes on the road can help decrease the chances of us getting into an accident. I will usually check blind spots when changing lanes and let the driver know when it’s safe to enter the highway or when a vehicle is accelerating towards us.
Description:
By creating stricter laws involving driver education and ridding of distractions within the vehicle with help decrease the number of people killed in preventable accidents.
