DMV Essay
Importance of Safe Driving
There are many drivers on the road that should not have a lisence or be driving. Too many people have been injured or in fatal car accidents due to those people. There are also just people on the road who make a one time mistake of checking their phone, looking back a child or changing a song on the radio that ended up in car accidents. There should be a better way to ensure this doesn’t happen as often as it really does.
Going to the DMV and learning how to be a safe driver from the 4 lessons you take with a driver and the 30 hours of supervised driving you need before you even take your drivers test is extremely important. This is a great way to teach all new drivers the dangers of driving and how to prevent an accident from happening. Although it is not a garuntee by taking all the classes and doing the driving lessons you will never get into a car accident it for sure helps. Without knowing about your blind spots, importance of turn signals, checking all mirrors and looking over your shoulder how can you be a good and safe driver. I think there are other ways accidents can be prevented, maybe by making licsenced drivers take an annual course about accident prevention and at the end they have to take a small quiz making sure they understand everything needed to do to help prevent an accident. Not I would ever wish this on anyone but sometimes the best way to learn is through experience and if you find yourself in a situation that causes an accident that will definitly scare you straight
Last October me and my friend stupidly decided to drive an hour to San Francisco at 1 in the morning. Don’t ask me why because I don’t even remember why we thought it was a good idea. Since I was staying at my friends house an dher mom wasn’t home we didn’t have to sneak out. We made it into the city by about 2am since there was no traffic and just drove around the main tourist spots like the Golden Gate bridge lookout, Pier 39, and the zigzag downhill road. While we were there I felt so rebellious and was actually having fun. We took some pictures at the lookout and blasted music in the car while driving through San Francisco. After an hour or so of being there we decided to drive back. It never crossed my mind that I would get tired when driving back. I made it 45 minutes, only 15 minutes from my friends house that we were staying at. My eyes kept closing so I tried to slap myself or turn the music up but nothing was working. Next thing I knew my eyes were shut and I heard my friend yelling my name. By the time I woke up it was too late and we had hit the median. All I saw was dust everywhere, it was dark and my glasses had fallen at my feet. When I hit the median we moved all the over to the shoulder, 5 lanes. I immeadiatly started to apoligize to my friend, she kept telling me it was okay but that we needed to gfet out the car so we didn’t get hit by another car driving. We called both our parents after calling 911 and then waited 20 minutes for the police and then waited with the police for another 30 until my mom came to pick us up. I will never forget the accident and I still have anxiety about driving on the freeway at night, whether i’m driving or not.
Whether you learn about safe driving through an annual safe drive course or through an actual accident, everyone should know how to be a safe driver so less accidents happen. I have definitly learned my lesson through my car accident and will never put myself in a situation where I could ever be tired while driving again. I think also people speaking out about their car accidents, because there are so many worse than mine. We were lucky enough to have no injuries whereas some accidents have been fatal. Safe driving is a peronal subject for me and I hope my small story can help others understand how important it is.
