Driver Safety
Hundreds of people die every day from distracted driving. They take their eyes off the road for a couple seconds to check their phone as a car suddenly hits them out of nowhere. If only they could have kept their eyes on the road, there would not be so many fatal accidents on the road.
Lessons learned in Drivers Education are important factors to remember when driving. It teaches you the basics of keeping your eyes on the road at all times. They tell you how to deal with certain situations involving certain distractions and how you can handle them. They also teach you how to deal with non-distracted driving situations such as slippery roads or avoiding other distracted drivers. I would say that Drivers Education has been a giant factor in keeping me safe on the road. I have noticed all sorts of people on their phones while driving and that scares me because an accident could happen quickly if they do not look up.
Some ways that I would suggest to reduce deaths are simple. Put away your electronic devices. These are a contributor in many driving fatalities, and it is a very easy task to put your phone in your pocket, glove compartment, or give it to somebody else that is with you. Another way is not to be a tired driver. Some people drive at night after a long day and they can’t see very well at night. A car or animal could pop up and surprise you, causing you to wreck. All I am saying is simply take extra precautions when driving at night and if you are too tired to be an alert driver, try to find an alternative option to get home safely. My last suggestion would be to be more observant of your surrounding area. There are a lot of hazards in certain areas that can be hard to navigate around and certain terrains can hurt your vehicle or even worse. Slow down or consider an alternate route.
Fortunately, I have never been in or seen an accident happen in real life, but I have seen some of my family and friends drive irresponsibly on occasion. They only do it when they need to get somewhere quickly by speeding up and rushing to get to their destination. I have not seen them do anything else of harm. Overall, my family and friends know and obey the rules of the road.
Drivers Education taught me the basics of being a good, conscientious driver. However, I have found that if I were to correct something about my driving it would be to stop rushing as much. I sometimes go a little fast to get to certain locations because I want to be there on time. We should all remind ourselves to put the electronics away, slow down, and pay attention to our surroundings. We can all be a little safer on the road by following these tips and I hope future drivers will take them into consideration.
