The Importance of Driver Education

Drivers education is super important and should be something that is required to take before someone gets their licenses. It is such an important course because it goes over so much information and goes more in depth on certain things you should know before hitting the road. There are many steps that can be taken to reduce the number of car accident-related deaths. One it should be obvious at this point but GET OFF YOUR PHONE texting and driving is a huge issue. I promise that the text from your best friend can wait, and if it can’t pull off the road and make that text. When it comes to a lot of cars the technology is way more advanced than older cars so if you have a newer car use its GPS features instead of your phone. I also know how much fun it is to blast a song that you absolutely love but even closing your eyes for half a second can cause so much irreversible damage, so turn the volume down and again if you need to pull off the side of the road and jam out. Keep your eyes on the road at all times keep the phone on silent and protect yourself and those around you. Two something a lot of people think they can do is a little thing called multi-tasking, that my friends isn’t a thing especially when you are driving so put down the Dutch Bros or the Starbucks, put down the fries and pay attention to the road. Eating and drinking while driving is considered distracted driving and has claimed the lives of many individuals. I also feel like as I said earlier that people should be required to take a drivers ed class before they get their license. It’s such an important course and there are statistics out there that show people who have taken the course are less likely to be involved in a car wreck in the first six months of getting their licenses. While someone who didn’t take the course was most likely involved in a wreck in the first six months of driving. I have in the past been involved in a car accident with a distracted driver, I was 8 and with my brother who was 10 and my grandfather. We were coming back from KFC and driving home when we were rear ended by a distracted driver. She was on her phone and had rammed into the back of our car sending us into the median. My grandfather has had a history of strokes and while we were getting over the shock of what happened he had a stroke in front of my brother and I. Thankfully there was a registered nurse who came over to our car to make sure we were okay, and she helped my grandfather best as she could before he was taken to the hospital. Thankfully he recovered and that was one of those moments even as a child that I swore I would be the most cautious driver I could be because I would never want something like that to ever happen to anyone. I have also witnessed numerous times my mom texting and driving and ever since I had taken my driving course when I am in the car with her, I hold her phone and if she needs to text someone I do it for her that way she can pay attention to the road. Driving is dangerous and most of the first mistakes a driver makes can be held off for a while, they can still happen but if going to a driver’s course gives you more experience and more very important information before you start driving. Do it take that extra step and help make those numbers on every graph involving car accidents decline help lower that number.
