Driver Education is Important!

Driver Education is Important!

I am Gracie A. Garrett from the small town of Virginia City, Nevada.  Virginia City is a small little town, down a steep grade, that can be dangerous.  Driving is a daily occurance and something that I have to be mindful of daily.  Especially in bad weather.

Driver education plays a huge role in safety on the roads.  There are two types of education, traditional and family education.  I would say that the constant reinforcement by my parents is that education that has meant the most to me.  They do not beat around the bush.  They tell frankly what will happen if I do not have my seatbelt on or if I drink and drive or if I use my phone while driving.

I think the steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths in the car is to tell real life stories.  I just recently had a friend that died in a head on crash.  Later, the findings showed that my friend had been using her phone when she hit the semi truck.  This will forever be in my heart.  I now take to heart this incident and will always be careful.  I never want my loved ones to be without me because I did something stupid.  There are so many other reasons that life can be taken, why do something to increase the odds?

As a result of this experience, I will make sure that I am being careful with each drive I take.  I will never put my family in a position where they lose me over something stupid and avoidable.  I will also make sure I am aware of my surroundings and drive defensively.  I have to always be aware of distracted drivers.  In addition, I will always wear my seatbelt, never drink and drive and never use my phone while driving.  This is a matter of life and death.
