Driving has
revolutionized travel ever since the automobile’s first debut in
1885 century but have traffic laws ever been enough to encourage
reasonable driving after the first accident occurred in 1891 given
that it only occurred five years after its debut? New laws, offenses,
and actions are put in place annually attempting to discourage
drivers from making careless mistakes but have failed to send a
simple message to drivers about not being distracted while driving.
Although many come up with the excuse that they are able to,
“multi-task,” or that they think “the text will only take
two-seconds to look at and respond to,” but as in any case, if it
needs an excuse then it probably should not be done. It is very
apparent that God has given every single thing he created a purpose
while making certain that he wills that no one person’s goal in
life is to end up tragically dead while driving. To begin, driver’s
education is crucial in the process of attaining a license as it is
the first course of warnings given to a potential driver. This first
line of defense forces everyone to engage in lessons that sum up to
thirty hours about dangers anywhere on the road and how they can
either benefit or impair driving skills. These lessons go as far to
explain how to either avoid or maneuver through most situations.
Also, one step that can be initiated to help reduce deaths related to
driving is using more demonstrations to attract large crowds of
people to witness how fatal accidents behave if they choose to
participate in hazardous activities while driving. Demonstrations can
be used to alert people about the omnipresent dangers while driving
and how an avoidable accident can occur in a matter of seconds. Using
demonstrations can leave psychological finger-prints that constantly
remind people of how dangerous driving can become. To exemplify the
urgency of this situation, I can recall a time when my mom was
driving on the freeway and got into an accident. While she was
driving, another car started swerving after losing control from
another car that bumped into them. The car was swerving so severely
that it caught my mom and a few other cars in collisions before it
stopped itself. Though nobody was severely injured, many people could
have been fatally wounded had the swerving car not done anything to
decrease the intensity of the situation. I thank God that this left
little psychological trauma for my mom. Overall, driving distracted
or in harsh circumstances is completely dangerous but one step I can
take to avoid adding onto the growing statistics of driving
fatalities is, designating anyone in the passenger seat to hold me
accountable for my driving, this way not only am I being trained to
keep a sharp eye on the road, but the person in the passenger seat
can also take more precautions after being influenced from driving
with me. Driving is a privilege and should not be abused.
