Driver
education allows individuals to learn about vehicle safety and the
rules of the road. By learning these aspects of driving, new drivers
can form a sense of knowledge within traffic laws, the controls of
their vehicle, and road awareness as they enter public roads and
traffic. This course overall reduces the chances of new drivers
endangering themselves and others around them on the roadway.

It
is predicted that 1.25 million people die from car accidents each
year, and 3,287 each day. The most common causes of automotive
collisions and accidents have been ruled as distracted driving,
speeding, drunk driving, and reckless driving. This number can easily
be dramatically reduced if drivers obey traffic laws, avoid
distractions such as cell phones or surrounding factors, drive
rested, and avoid alcohol and drug use. I have personally seen peers
around me driving irresponsibly, and many times have heard about
reckless driving stories. This includes texting and driving, posting
on social media while driving, or even boasting about how fast their
vehicle can go. As I keep the number of 1.25 million people in my
memory, I commonly remind myself and others that a text is not worth
more than your own life or the surrounding drivers you’re endangering
as you drive irresponsibly. I feel as though this message should be
displayed to younger drivers as soon as they begin driving with an
adult, as it is important to know the dangers of distracted driving
and personal worth. As our world continuously speeds up with newly
found technology advances, we must remind ourselves to slow down
while on the road. Driving is a privilege, not a necessity, and can
easily be taken away just like our own lives and the individuals
surrounding us.
