Results of Distracted Driving

The leading cause of driving related accidents is caused by distracted driving. People are constantly doing other things while operating a vehicle. They are texting on their phone, doing their makeup, or even just looking at the scenery around them. The one common factor about these things is that people don’t have their full attention on the road. It happens a lot in experienced drivers. They think that their experience on the road makes it less likely for something to happen while driving. They don’t prioritize the important things while driving such as constantly watching the road.

People need to understand the dangers that come with distracted driving. There are plenty of people taking driver safety, but how many people actually retain the information they are learning? How many people are so excited about the idea of driving that they ignore the rules and dangers of the road?. It can happen to anyone. Someone not experienced in the dangers of driving wouldn’t see a need for education in the subject. The problem with this isn’t just breaking the law or doing the wrong things, it is the repercussions that could have on the,. For example, I know a person who didn’t understand that you had to stop before you turned right on a red light. Luckily, she made sure there weren’t any cars coming and she wasn’t injured, but that easily could have been the cause of a major accident. It was prevented by her paying attention to the roads; the problem with this is that not everyone is doing that. People are not aware of all the rules or safety hazards of the roads, but not paying attention to the roads around them make it 100 times more dangerous.

In order to reduce the number of driving related accidents, we need to limit the distractions and increase the knowledge of drivers education. It is important to make sure that phones are put away or silenced, and anything causing distraction is out of sight. The driver must be fully aware of the road and what’s going on around him/her. Making sure they have received the right amount of sleep, and when going on long trips, make sure to switch drivers or take breaks. Along with this, it is important that drivers have a full understanding of the rules and dangers on the road.

Teenagers especially have problems following the rules of the road. It is common to hear about instances where kids were messing around or distracted by their friends and then all the sudden everything changes. I knew a kid who was just messing around with his friends driving in a field. He didn’t think anything of it. Why would he worry, there weren’t any cars around? What he didn’t realize was that one vehicle can be just as dangerous as multiple. He wasn’t paying attention, and he was playing around. All of the sudden, while not paying attention to his surroundings, he hits a tree, hard. Then, all you could see on social media was to pray for him.

Luckily, he ended up being okay, but now he is a lot more careful when driving. Not understanding the dangers of driving a vehicle can be life threatening. I have made it a point to put my phone and any distractions aside while driving. My focus is solely on the road and the cars around me. It is important to not treat driving as a joke or a game.Driving can be a lot of fun. You get your license and all the sudden you open up to a world of opportunities. A whole new level of independence and freedom. The problem is you have to keep in mind the dangers on and off the road. New drivers aren’t thinking about all the things that could happen, they are thinking about the possibilities that have opened up to them. They need to be informed about the dangers of distracted driving, and it needs to be more than a video they will forget about in a day.

Driver education is one of the most crucial things drivers need to know. There are many ways to learn about it, you can go to a class, you can watch videos, you can take driver safety online. The important thing is that all people who are in control of a vehicle have seen or taken the time to learn about the information it teaches you. Skipping drivers safety is not an option. All it takes is one second on the road for everything to change. Don’t let distracted or uneducated driving be the last thing you do.
