Responsibility in the driverś seat

Driver safety and being responsible in the driver’s seat is a task every driver should be an expert on. There are many instructions for driving and responsibilities and every driver should be educated on all of the responsibilities and also should be aware of what to do in certain situations. Driving is not a game. It is not something to do for fun. When getting in the driver’s seat it is important to understand what is a risk if you are distracted while driving.

Although I have not started driving I know driver safety is one of the most critical subjects all drivers should be educated on and aware of. According to the World Health Organization, “car accidents are responsible for approximately 1.3 million deaths worldwide” (WHO). The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration projects “estimated there were 42,915 traffic fatalities in 2021”(NHTSA). The majority of accidents are caused by driving under the influence, inclement weather, reckless/distracted driving, teenagers, etc. Most deaths caused by accidents were innocent people. For example, some pedestrians could be walking and get caught in the middle of a car accident. The top cause of car accidents is distracted drivers. Authorities believe that “distraction plays a role in about 80 percent of accidents that occur in the state” (Injury Attorneys of California). It is important when learning about driver safety, the number one lesson is to always keep your eyes on the road at all times. When driving, you should always know you are responsible for not only your life but also the passengers in the car and innocent bystanders. Knowing driver’s safety, such as turning signals, and basic instructions for driving.

Many teenagers who drive are reckless drivers. Most teenagers who drive only have permits and are new to driving. They do not have much experience driving which is why a large amount of car accidents are caused by teenagers. A car full of teenagers is a prime example of why they should be safe. The driver can easily be distracted by their friends and can cause a fatal car crash. I believe before a teenager gets their driver’s license they have to drive with an adult even if they have a license and not a permit. There is less of a chance of a car crash happening because there is a responsible adult in the car also observing.

Basic driver’s education is the most effective way to decrease car accidents and deaths caused by car accidents. Such as turning signals,looking at the car mirrors,paying attention to surroundings, staying focused on the roads, wearing seatbelts, and most importantly driving sober and healthy. If you are under the influence even if it was one drink you should not be driving or if you are not feeling well you should not be driving. Driving requires attention at all times.

I have never been in a car crash before, however I have been in many interactions where the car accident could have been fatal. None of the altercations have been the cause of the driver in my car. The last interaction happened because the car in front of us braked out of nowhere. My uncle swerved to dodge the car and I believe if he hadn’t the car accident would have been fatal. It was a close call and I do not think I would have survived. This incident is a prime example of why you should be paying attention to the road at all times. You can look away for one second and the next second you could be a victim of a car crash. It takes only one second to lose your life and others.

Many car accidents are caused by drivers who are impatient. Whether the reason is they are late or a car in front of them is going too slow. I have seen many cars before driving on the opposite side of the street and merging back in front of a car who is going to slow for their liking. In many instances, this does not work for the driver because they end up causing a car crash. Another innocent life is lost.

In conclusion, driver safety in all cars should be the same. Always drive safe and healthy. Never let impatience get to you. Always remember your actions not only affect you, but they also affect the people around you. People who are great people and innocent.
