Protecting Adventure: Driver Safety

Driving and the ability to drive is a marvelous spread of advanced travel technology which is a huge beautiful premise to be treasured for ages. It is an amazing opportunity to expand adventures and broaden horizons, taking jumps and leaps for new opportunities. However, if not utilizing the proper knowledge when it comes to driving, the roads can be more dangerous than marvelous. There are many mistakes that can occur due to lack of road knowledge, such as driving while intoxicated, not using turn signals, misunderstanding road signs, not knowing the proper lights, and so much more. Because of this, it is incredibly important for every driver to know the importance of driver education. Any small mistake on the road can lead to tragedy, especially given how fast cars drive. Knowing driver safety can put a stop to unexpected deaths and injuries that come from mistakes when driving, which will ultimately promote a better environment for both new and existing drivers. Not only this, but it will also promote a safer environment, which will make people less scared of driving. From personal experience, I know many people who are afraid of driving due to dangerous drivers, which could be avoided with just a little bit more knowledge.

Like I have said, it is very important for people to promote safety on the roads. Because of this, it is important to take steps forward in ensuring roadside safety and making sure no unnecessary deaths occur. One primary step that can be avoided in order to prevent deaths related to driving is to enhance driver education. By this, I mean that we should make courses more specific to really entrain the material in the minds of students. Doing this will force drivers to inhale more material and from there they will be able to learn more about driver safety. Another step that we can take to increase driver safety is to make annual tests that will require people to renew their driver’s licenses. These tests could be done once every few years, perhaps every five years, so that if someone fails a test then they will be required to re-learn the material. This would be helpful because people would need to re-learn anything that they forgot and re-earn their ability to drive. This would ensure safer roads for generations, as well as discourage any bad driving habits that people pick up after their initial test.

I personally would benefit from changes such as these. When I was in high school I worked a part time job, from which I would drive back and forth. I became fairly comfortable with the route because it was the road I traveled on every day, due to working at the same job for over a year. However, on one of my trips home, two cars got into an accident in front of me. I couldn’t break quickly enough and I ended up part of the collision. I will always remember the sound of the slamming of the break, the smell of burning rubber, and the immense fear that I felt that day. As cliche as it sounds, my life flashed before my eyes, rendering me completely traumatized. My car had been totaled, however, it wasn’t the only thing crushed. I became completely terrified of the road and driving, never knowing what mayhem other drivers could cause. I had to be enrolled in therapy due to my shock and quit my job because I no longer felt as though I could make the drive. I became stagnant in life, having no way of getting anywhere without relying upon other people and their help.

There are many steps that I could take in order to become a better driver. However, I suppose the first step that I would need to take would become more confident in myself and my abilities. After my accident, I became hyper aware of all of my shortcomings as a driver, and I haven’t found the courage to be able to drive again. However, if I can once again regain confidence in myself, then I can start driving again and grow better. Another step that I can take to become a better driver would be to be more cautious of my surroundings. Had I been more aware of the accident than I could have switched lanes and avoided being involved. One other step that I could take would be to make sure that I familiarize myself with what I learned in drivers education regularly, that way I never forget the information, because I will routinely look at it.
