Driver Education

The importance of driver education is to ensure that people have knowledge pertaining to the dos and don’ts of driving. It teaches the basics and gives drivers an understanding of what to do when they are behind the wheel of a car. Driver education is a tool that addresses things like the rules of driving, the laws concerning driving, and the consequences of not following both. Teens and adult drivers can both benefit from the instruction, whether online or in person.

Some steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving are not being distracted by texting and being on the phone, learning the proper way to drive, and becoming familiar with the different laws that apply to being behind the wheel. If every person chooses to make good personal choices when they put the key in the ignition, more lives will and can be saved.

Another step that can be taken is not getting behind the wheel drunk or impaired. When people choose to take drugs, not have enough sleep, or drink too much alcohol, it makes them unable to operate a vehicle properly and it also puts peoples lives in danger. I have seen many movies and heard many stories of how people got hit by wrong way drivers, due to alcohol or drugs. I do not want to see any one else get hurt because someone didn’t think to pull over or not get behind the wheel in the first place. There are many ways to stop this now. Learning how to call an uber or someone else to pick you can also save lives and prevent deaths.

Another step is not having road rage or being silly while driving. So many people are losing their lives by participating in chaotic behavior while driving. Sometimes it is best to just let the next driver get on the road or get in front of you without arguing or bad language. These situations are causing more deaths now as well.

I experienced being in a car accident when I was 13 or 14. I wasn’t irresponsible, but I was still learning the basics of driving. My mom wanted to start me out early, however, I panicked and hit a fence. No one was injured, but I did learn a lot of things. When a person is behind the wheel, they must be confident and fully aware of their surroundings. I was nervous because I was new to driving. I was becoming more comfortable, but at the time I think I just panicked. When you drive, you must be responsible and look out for all the cars around you. Nothing can distract you are cause you to lose sight of what’s surrounding you. Although I have been driving more, I am so grateful that my accident wasn’t caused by me not paying attention or having my eyes in my phone. I have learned to stay focused and to make good decisions that can positively affect all involved.

The steps I can take to be a better and safer driver is to continuously keep an eye out for others, such as drivers, pedestrians, motorcyclists, and even children. There are so many things that can distract drivers such as other people, billboards, buildings, and signs. I can make sure I am fully awake and alert, buckled in, and paying attention to the things and people around me.

I can also teach others the things that I know. I have a sister who is fifteen years old and she wants to learn how to drive. I can show her the importance of knowing the basic rules and how the weather plays a part in how I drive. Driving seems cool as a teenager but it is very difficult to do when the weather is not our friend. I want her to know that each time you drive, you may have to alter your normal way of doing it. The rain, dirt, flying debris, and other bad weather types can cause you to get distracted. I want to teach her how to be safe at a young age.

In conclusion, driving is more about being safe than it is about being convenient. Drivers’ education can help each driver become more aware of the regulations. Driving the speed limit, being fully awake, not having drugs or alcohol in my system, and knowing the basic laws can help me be a better driver every time I get in the car. I want to be a safe driver no matter who’s in the car with me.
