Where Driving Practices can be improved.

Driver education is very important to everyone. Knowing how to drive safely and efficiently is important for keeping people safe for we all have families we want to see at the end of the day. An educated driver keeps everyone safe and reduces the danger of using our vehicles. Knowing simple safety tips, such as no texting, when to merge, how to handle bad weather and much more. To decrease the number of deaths related to driving, education must be more accessible and people must feel enticed to follow the rules. Education as of right now for driving school in a lot of places, if it hasn’t already, has been stripped out of public schools. This makes the education usually go through a third-party business or leave parents to teach their kids. Businesses can charge a lot and parents aren’t the most reliable teachers as they’ll teach how to drive and not all the safety rules. Moving the driving education classes back into the schools would make it more affordable for kids to learn how to drive. There are too many kids that know how to drive but don’t have a license to drive since the classes are too much for their parents to pay and/or they struggle to have time to take the classes. Putting them in the schools would increase the legibility of the teaching, more educated and safer drivers, and overall, less deaths related to driving.

I personally can relate to uneducated driving in my personal life. From myself being an unsafe driver and my family members or strangers. In my own case it was a very known thing that all teenagers do. Getting on your phone whilst driving is what I did. I always told myself that I wouldn’t do that when I started driving but I found myself doing it a lot. In this case I wanted to change a song and I felt I had enough time to do so. However, it did take my eyes off the roads so I couldn’t see any sudden stops in front of me. A car did break to make a left turn into a neighborhood and luckily, I stopped in time to not hit the car. If I had stopped even half a second later, I could’ve put the people in front of me, myself, and behind me in more danger. Looking at your phone whilst driving is never worth it and causes more danger than one might think. Another example that involved me is a time I was rear ended at a stop light. There wasn’t much that I could’ve done since I was the one who was rear ended. However, the couple themselves said that they were distracted now. Their reasoning is that they were in a deep conversation. That is very understandable in the sense that humans talk to each other, that’s just normal. However, someone should always have their eyes on the roads if they’re going to engage in conversation whilst driving.

Nobody is perfect including myself when it comes to driving. When I drive there are a few things I can do that would make me a better driver overall. One of these is to remember that there is nothing on your phone worth risking your life for whilst driving. If you need to listen to music then always just use a playlist or the radio, and anyone can always wait to text unless there is a hands-free call option in your car. Secondly, I will remember to always break in a timely manner and never too late. Braking too late can make it hard for the person behind you to break also. Which is why it’s important to keep your eyes on the road ahead of you so you can brake accordingly if you have too. It’s also just more considerate to let someone else know ahead of time that you’re breaking. Lastly, I would personally improve on driving with both hands more often. I use both hands when driving in weather or slick conditions. However, after becoming comfortable with my driving skills i hardly find myself using both hands when driving. Using both hands give you more control when steering. Which increases the likelihood that you won’t lose control when turning and accidentally hit another car. All three of these things can help me be a better driver overall.

Overall driving safely becomes harder as the days go on as people are getting more comfortable, less educated, and faster sleeker cars. However, it is everyone’s job to make sure that every person can go home and see their families and loved ones at the end of their day. Just by getting the proper education and checking yourself you can improve the safety of driving everywhere.
