Driver Education Initiative Essay

The importance of driver education is crucial in reducing the number of deaths from driving as it keeps you and others alive, by simply being responsible on the road and not allowing bad influences to cloud your judgment. There are ways of receiving driver education via driving schools/programs, or taught by a parent (which shouldn’t cost you anything) since you know they have been driving their whole life and could talk about situations that they faced and pass it down to you, or school programs (extracurricular activities).

The basic steps that most people should know is; driving the recommended speed limit, be careful with roads that children are most frequently passing, being taught by experience drivers (preferably parents as they will include a story about new drivers on how driving fast may and can be fun but it will increase the chances of being in an accident that may result of a life lose), check your car monthly for any defective parts such turn lights, brakes, wheels, oil (anything that could affect your driving in situations such as weather, and pathment), and most importantly not being in the influences of any type of substance as it will result of your cognitive functions being very limited which you might need to react quickly. As fortunate as I am, no friends or family were driving irresponsibly as they understand the danger of driving irresponsible since their parents did their jobs correctly however, most teen don’t have that but a solution that I wish to see in action and enforced are new drivers to attend a special class (paid by the government and should also link to getting your license) is to be taught by special driving coaches about the possibilities of driving such as driving in extreme weather conditions, when driving on bumpy roads, driving drunk and in coming traffic, and later be taught by mechanics on how to fix your car or what to do if something breaks down, (I believe schools do offer motor related classes).

As a college student, I fear driving, I dislike being in charge of someone in a vehicle that could go relatively fast or out of control however, as the time passes and still without a vehicle I found myself needing to get my license as now the cold and rain is affecting my studies…my living situation is no different, I’m nowhere near family and I do all the groceries but I’m very limited on how much I can carry and get. This is where the car comes into play, The dangers of driving are there. I trust myself to ride a bike or scooter but with a car, crashing into another vehicle is frightening as it implies that I wasn’t ready to start driving. Overthinking plays a huge role in the distrust of myself and others. If my safety is ruined by others then I shouldn’t contribute to this problem by getting a vehicle. Driving Education should be taught throughout highschool, it gives students enough knowledge on how to drive responsibly on the road and practice at home can be taught by the parents, this limits the chances of driving irresponsible as this subject will be useful now rather than later as they build connections with their peers. There are steps that I could take to become a better driver, simply driving calmly, observe my surroundings and have an experience driver to my side and point out problems in my driving as I go on the road, only take streets as to build confidence in my skills as a driver, control how much pressure I apply on the brakes and accelerator, basically building a strong base of foundation as it could help increase my skills in other vehicles whither it be vans, trucks, cars as I know how different each one is but they all operate the same.

Throughout writing this essay, it has made me realize that driving is a necessity and requires a good amount of knowledge on how to operate on the road either on the freeway and or streets since driving a vehicle can be challenging at times but there are countless situations where a driver can find themselves in and that bit of knowledge could help them, but the most prepared driver will have to face off with a unprepared driver, so although the roads aren’t safe, there are ways to reduce the chances of an accident if you are actively following the rules and not contributing to the problem unlike those reckless individuals.
