Its in Your Hands, Choose Your Path

Driving is one of the most essential parts of life in this day and age. Driving is how we get from point A to point B. Driving has opened a world of possibilities that did not exist before driving. There are so many good things that come out of driving, but its not all a fairytale. If driving is not taken with responsibility it can be the biggest harm to yourself and others. As my mother has told me ever since I started driving, “Driving is putting others and your own life in your hands.” It is impossible to know exactly what will happen on the road when you drive, but a responsible and educated driver can prevent deadly accidents from happening. A responsible driver can prevent from adding to those 34,000 people that die on average each year as a result from driving.

To be able to become and responsible and educated driver you have to first understand the roads in which you will be driving. It is impossible to expect nothing bad to happen to you or others if you do not fully understand driving as a whole. There are many things such as road signs, intersections, bad weather, and road rules that could confuse a beginner driver. This is why drivers ed exist, to educate people about the roads and how to be more responsible on them. Drivers educations is so important because a knowledgeable driver will not have doubts on the road therefore leading to a confident and successful driver. Milliseconds can be the difference between life and death in driving, and drivers education is what can provide that. Not only does drivers education make smarter drivers, it also gives the bases of driving to beginners. Beginner drivers first need to understand the roads to then be able to drive on them and know what they are doing without putting others at risk. Everyday that you get in your car to drive somewhere you are taking a risk, but if your and driver that has all the knowledge needed and uses it, then the risk goes way down. Drivers education is the path to take if you want to be able to drive many more years.

There are many steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving and one of them is always keeping your eyes on the road. It sounds easy and obvious but this is one of the main reasons that there are deadly crashings. One second of looking at something besides the road can cause you hit a car infront of you. There can be many distractions on the sides of the road or even in your own car, but make it a priority to keep you eyes always on the road. Another one of the steps that can prevent there from being deaths on the road is making sure that you are fully adjusted before you start driving. This step is very important because if you are uncomfortable or can fully see your surroundings in the mirrors in your car this can affect your driving. These are just a few of the steps that can be taken to ensure safe roads and reduced numbers of deaths on the road.

Thankfully I have not had a deadly accident on the road but I have been in a car crash. My mother was the one driving a car and she is a very responsible driver but unfortunately the driver behind us was not. We were at a stop light and the driver behind us had not seen that we were stopped so he hit us from behind. The driver had been distracted in the moments leading to the crash therefore leading him to hit us from behind. Thankfully me and my mom were both safe with some minor back pains, but mostly just scared from what had just happened. Our car was what took the bigger part of the damage and this caused the car to be total loss. Eventhough it was not a horrific accident that left me injured, I still remember it clearly to this day and make sure to be careful on the roads.

Some of the steps that I can take to ensure that I am a better and safer driver are to remain calm on the roads. An angry driver can lead to irrational decisions which can cause accidents. It is better to be a defensive driver instead of a offensive driver. Another step that I can take to make sure i’m a safer driver is to stay up to date on the road signs around me. Sometimes doubt can creep on you with certain signs or rules of the roads but if I occasionally freshen up on rules of driving and signs I will not have that problem. If I know all the drivers education I can pass it onto others that may have questions or doubts about the world of driving, therefore leading to safer roads.

All in all, being an educated driver is very important, not only for your own life but for the life of others around you. An educated driver is a responsible and safer driver, and that means less deaths. You never know when drivers education will be what saves your life from a deadly accident, so don’t risk it, be an educated driver.
