My tragedy
Licensing is a major milestone in the life of most teenagers as well as me. Driving puts one in charge of their own transportation and does not entail relying on adults for transportation. It allows teenagers to explore places outside their usual areas with friends and make more plans without the supervision of a parent. Even though driving is exciting, there are risks associated with it. The consequences of unsafe and irresponsible driving lead to approximately 34,000 deaths every year. Driving has profound consequences that need to be understood and used to improve and enhance oneself and everyone else’s experience.
Getting a permit to drive with an adult requires taking driver education classes before getting one’s license to practice driving with an adult. Nevertheless, most people fail to pay attention to their teachers or are bored when they do, making them disregard classes as a waste of time. There is a lot of information to learn before going on the road, and this is essential to be safe, responsible, and aware of how your actions affect others. Even common-sense safety requirements for driving can be taught to students as part of driver education. Seatbelts are an example. Driving education also teaches things that much of the population is not. The following distance between two people is supposed to be three seconds, for instance. After passing the road test to get a license, most people do not follow this rule. As with many other rules, this one is in place to prevent deaths from accidents. There would be chaos if there were not driver education. People would not know the road rules. There would be more accidents than there already are and most people would just be overall unsafe on the road. Driving education is in place for everyone’s safety on the road, not just the people driving. In this case, the driver is responsible for ensuring the road is safe for all passengers, and the passengers are responsible for creating a safe environment in their vehicles by avoiding distractions. As well as recognizing the significance of driver education and how learning the information can help prevent car accidents and deaths, there are steps that can be taken to make the road a safer one. Drivers should take steps to ensure a safer road, even if it does not come down to one driver alone. There are several steps that can be taken to keep people engaged, including requiring, or strongly recommending that students take a defensive driving course, as well as requiring adults to take not only the road test but also the permit or written test. Making the driver education class more interesting and interactive would make it to where it would be more likely for people to attend and look forward to taking the course. Having students engaged will help them learn, retain, apply, and talk about the information more effectively. The other driver may also be reminded of some road safety rules if students are discussing their day’s activities with their families. In general, defensive driving courses are excellent ways to prevent cars and passengers from being hit by aggressive drivers or just to maintain a safe driving environment.
Even if driver education is more engaging and most people are taking steps to ensure the safety of drivers and passengers, sadly, not everyone will listen, and there will still be car accidents. I had a firsthand traumatizing experience where I was riding around with people, I should not have been with that were all under the influence of many things. While in the car the driver was not taking anything serious like swerving down the streets as one of my friends hung out of the window doing typical teenage things it was one of the funniest days well, I had thought until tragedy struck in the blink of an eye my whole world stopped the car swerved while my friend was still hanging out of the window but as the car spun out we hit a lightning cable pole frantically I hoped right out of the car scared and in shock trying to help everyone out I realized that my friend was still hanging out of the window so I walked to the other side of the car frantically not knowing what I would see I saw a graphic and brutal scene that I never thought could happen in real life my friend slowly lost consciousness as half of her body was in between the window and pole but from the waist down was on the ground the only thing I could do at that moment was scream. I thought about how many ways that could have prevented blaming myself for not telling her to get back in the car before it was too late so many thoughts rushing through my head as I stood there in shock. On that day and moving forward I promised myself that I would say something to prevent that happening to anyone because that night was horrific. I take all the safety measures that are needed even until this day and anyone who steps foot in my car will wear a seat belt.
