Who is really at fault? Driver education importance

Driving is such a hard task mentally and physically. The hazards on the road and worrying about other drivers can make it a fearful task for many. There are many important factors that should not be learned at the wheel that education can provide. There are also many steps that can help reduce the number of deaths related to motor vehicle accidents. Being in a car accident is not for the faint of heart and there are many steps you can take to be a safer driver.

The importance of driver education is unmeasurable. To be behind the wheel trying to learn the hard way is a great way to scare someone for life. Driver education can prepare a driver for defensive driving against aggressive drivers. Education can also prepare a driver for night driving or driving on a busy highway. The need for education is so important because as a culture we rely on parents to teach young drivers, and who says the parent is a great driver to begin with. Or even if the parent is a safe driver. Education can and would prepare a young adult for situations they might face while driving. Educate would also allow a universal way of being taught for anyone trying to seek a driver’s license.

There are many steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths in a motor vehicle, specifically related to driving. One step can be where a cell phone automatically detects a person is in the car and goes on do not disturb and does not allow for anything but hands-free calling. Another great step can be to reduce the speed that cars are manufactured with, so it makes it less tempting to go over the speed limit. I also believe that if there was universal highway speed limit, it would limit drivers from using the excuse that they were unaware of the actual speed limit in a certain state. I also believe that if people were made more accountable for their speed, like a sign on the outside of the car that makes everyone aware of how fast they are actually traveling, it might help reduce the speeding and unsafe driving occurring because in reality people care what people think.

I do not know a single person that has not been involved in some sort of car accident. I have been in a major car accident because the driver that hit me was elderly and in Arizona at the time you did not need to renew until you were 65 years old. She had lost her vision legally and did not have her vision check at the department of motor vehicles. She, like many aging adults did not believe she was losing her sight and I paid the price. The law in Arizona made it where you were supposed to have a vision test after 55 years old, however if your license doesn’t expire until you are 65 years old why would you bother? Arizona has changed that now and their license expire every four years thankfully. However, it was not soon enough for me. Ultimately, my car was totaled, my hand was fractured, and I became terrified of driving for a long time after that accident. It is hard to decided who was to blame. The woman for not being a safe driver and realizing she could not see as well as she used to be able to. Or was it the state that allowed ,your drivers license to be valid until you were 65 years old?

A step that I can take to be a safer driver is to not look at my cell phone while I am driving. It causes a distraction and is not worth the short time of texting to possibly kill myself or someone else. I can also reduce my speed to accommodate for the weather or animals that run out into the road causing unexpected hazards. I will also ensure that my passengers and I are always wearing a seat belt. No belt no ride! The final step I can take is to be prepared for an emergency, have a charged phone to be able to call for help and use caution around vehicles that are driving unsafe.

The need for education in driving is great. There are people who are not the best drivers or are too aggressive teaching their teenagers how to drive like they do. I believe education would compel adults to drive safer and more responsibly to help reduce the number of accidents that cause fatalities. Education can be universal so that everyone is learning the same ways to drive, the same ways to respond to an aggressive driver, and the things to do in an emergency in a vehicle.
