A Perfect World: No Car Accidents

In a world where everything and everyone was perfect, car accidents would not exist. This statement would be accurate; however, it can never be tested because people are human and are not perfect. Versions of perfection have been established, but none are absolute. As much as we would like to say that we are perfect and without error, people make mistakes. These mistakes, however big or small, can result in fatalities, such as injury or death from a car accident. Mistakes can be prevented by accessing education that teaches us life-sustaining skills. Driver’s education is important because it teaches communities how to drive safely on the road so that we prevent as many car accidents as possible.

Imagine you are driving down a road that has a stop sign at the end, but you notice there are no cars around. Your instinct might tell you to bypass the stop sign since no one is around; however, after taking a driver’s education course, you know that to stay safe, you must stop at every stop sign. As you approach the stop sign, you notice that it is only a one-way stop sign and that cars going in the opposite direction do not have one. A car zooms by that, had you not stopped, would have hit you. Driver’s education is important because, in this instance, one or more lives were saved. There are many other instances in which driver’s education has prevented accidents and deaths from occurring, which is why taking the courses is very important and necessary.

Many steps can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving. One step that drivers should take is to follow all safety laws and regulations. An example of this might be to stay off electronic devices entirely while driving. Electronic devices and texting bring forth many dangers while driving, such as veering off the road because a person is not paying attention. Another step that can be taken to avoid deaths caused by car accidents is proper and adequate driving lessons. All young drivers should be required to take courses or lessons taught by a professional who can teach them the rules of driving. Although not all car accidents involve a young driver who has just received their license, having lessons can decrease the number of accidents that do include this age group. These steps, along with many others, will likely decrease the amount of driving-related deaths around the world.

Although I have luckily never been in a car accident, I have experienced driving with someone who has driven irresponsibly. This has happened in the form of speeding and texting while driving. Most of the time, if I am with a friend who is going over the speed limit, it is to try and impress someone in the car or another car driver. These instances have put me in situations where I have felt a lot of anxiety over being safe and not getting in a car accident. Although thrill is something that all teenagers experience, driving with this influence can be very harmful to the driver and the passengers. Texting while driving is another way in which I have been put in harm’s way while being a passenger in someone else’s car. Texting while driving is arguably one of the biggest reasons people get into car accidents. In the instances where I have been in a car where the driver is texting, there are moments where the car has swerved or stopped suddenly because the car was going to hit something. As I have mentioned before, I have a lot of anxiety in these instances because I have put my life in control of another, and that person is not doing everything they can to protect themselves and me.

There are many ways in which I can improve my driving as well as the driving of others. To start, I would improve my driving by making sure I am up to date on all safety rules and regulations. By doing so, I would protect myself as well as others while I am in the driver’s seat. Another way I can become a better driver is by paying attention to speed limits. Paying attention to speed limits is important because by going the speed limit, I am protecting myself and others from potentially fatal car accidents. To help others be safe on the road as a passenger, I can remind others to go the speed limit and to stay off their phones. Although I can take many other steps to be a better driver and to inform others of safe driving, these steps are among the most vital.

So, how can the world become a better version of perfection? As mentioned above, although absolute perfection can never be reached, steps can be taken to create a world in which mistakes are less likely to occur. By informing others about driver education, car-related accidents and deaths will decrease which will allow everyone to experience a more perfect world.
