All it takes is one bad driver

All it takes is one bad driver, I believe that all schools should offer Drivers Ed to ensure their students knowledge in their safety and their passengers safety. I believe that Driver’s education is so important for the new generation coming up because more kids are interested in sports cars, and some kids are involved in racecars.

The importance of Drivers Ed for me is to get high school freshman and sophomores ready to get on the road and to teach them road safety, hazards and road signs. I personally have taken a Driver’s Ed class and I am glad I did because it taught me things I didn’t even know about road signs and safety. It has also taught me the importance to not drive under the influence. About 31% of fatal accident are caused by drunk drivers.

I have personally been in the car with an irresponsible driver who would speed and be on their phone, and it was terrifying. I have also been involved in one accident with my mom driving. It was only a single vehicle accident and it wasn’t a very bad one, we went up onto a snow bank after hitting a sheet of black ice and thankfully no one was hurt. It was still a very scary moment for me and it has made me very cautious because I am terrified to get into an accident that may end up with some injuries or fatalities. Some kids just don’t realize that sometimes people don’t survive some car accident. My school has had three deaths due to car accidents over the past two years of my high school career. I only personally knew one of the kids and I know first hand what it is like to loose a friend do to irresponsible driving. One of the other casualties were caused by not wearing their seatbelt and they would have survived if they would have had their seatbelt on.

I feel a good way to reduce the number of deaths in driving is to have schools really enforce driver’s education as a class. Another good way is to be aware of your surroundings, not only pay attention to what your doing but also pay attention to others around you. Also another good way is to make sure to do the attend speed limit and not to show off to your friends and driving recklessly. Also to not get frustrated with slow drivers and passing them when you’re not in a passing lane. There could be a car that comes out of no where and you could hit them head on causing two casualties. Where I live there are many side roads and alley ways, so I make sure when I am doing the speed limit, even when I have friends in the car. I also have to look for cars who are getting ready to pull out and to slow down if they are about to pull out in front of me, so I’m not involved in any collisions.

The best steps the ensure you are a safer driver is to not text and drive. 1 out of 4 car accidents are caused by texting and driving. Another step is to always wear your seat belt, they are so important for your safety, they will save your life one day when you are least expected it. When I’m driving the steps I use are put my seatbelt on and, to make sure that if I have passengers they are also wearing theirs. I also put my phone on silent and to put my phone away. If I am to ever to receive a phone call I will pull over to a safe spot and I will answer my phone. Driving while talking on the phone is just as dangerous as texting on the phone because you are still not as focused on the road as you are when you’re not on your phone at all.

In conclusion I believe the schools should have driver’s education as a class, not only to teach kids about safety but to also help them drive safely. Also to minimize there chances on being involve or be the cause of an accident. Some accidents are unavoidable but to teach kids that seatbelts are important is another reason why Drivers Ed should be thought. I have been lucky enough to have taken a driver’s education class and it has helped me a lot, not only to know what road signs mean, safety and how dangerous it is to text and drive , and also to drink and drive. It has also helped me teach my friends, who have not been so lucky, to correct them if they are driving irresponsibly or if it is just a simple mistake, like reading a road sign wrong.
