Making a Safe World

In these current times, safe driving is a high priority in order to prevent deaths and injuries to valuable members of our community. First, driving, especially in urban areas, is a very dangerous feat that requires your attention at all times. Today, there are too many distractions to driving like texting, putting on make-up, reading, and other actions that take drivers’ attention off to the task at hand. Everyone needs to take driving seriously and make sure they are taking into account the safety of others. I think that once the people realize that responsibility is their mandatory required to have safe roads; we will all be in a safer position and less stressful situation when driving on America’s highways.

In my humble assessment, I believe in driver’s education. As I began my journey to independent driving, my parents signed me into courses for drivers’ education with the goal of having me appreciate the serious nature of operating a car. If all people realized the serious nature of operating a vehicle properly, then deaths could be reduced because everyone will not be taking the elements of safety for granted. Educating drivers would increase safety in driving awareness and make people realize that they could possibly cause death to themselves and others. With driver education, we can focus on not texting and driving. This has taken the place of drunk driving and has become a feature among our young generation of drivers. Just like the emphasis was placed on drunk driving in the 1980s, a renewed focus should be placed on texting and driving. Along with texting, the general focus should be placed on other activities that hampers a person’s focus on the wheel. If we can eliminate the distractions, we can save lives and have lower levels of accidents.

Also, for driver’s education, a person’s mental capacity should be tested. Since many of our citizens are suffering from depression, bipolarism, and other mental challenges, there is a danger in their capacity to operate a vehicle. Some of these actions were viewed as former football players who suffered from CTE used vehicles as a form of suicide. Some serious mental health issues can be escalated when a person uses the vehicle as a weapon, to not only destroy themselves, but kill others. Checking a person’s mental capacity should be a priority, especially when many citizens have been pronged road rage, leading to more deaths.

Being involved in an accident is very stressful, after being hit from the side by an oncoming car, I realized that my life could have been permanently altered by an oncoming car. Thankfully, the safety features in the car saved my life and no one was injured. However, if I had been distracted, drunk, or doing something that was not conducive to safe driving. The outcome could have been fatal. I encourage everyone to take driving seriously. Reason being, here in Atlanta, the traffic is very heavy, and people are very frustrated. These conditions breed accidents that are characterized by carelessness, ignoring good safety habits, thus ending, usually, in the death of one or more persons. We have to maintain safety at all times and not take our safety for granted. If we can adhere to safe driving, then we could have a lower rate of death on our highways.

Personally, I have a zero tolerance for texting and driving. I take my safety very seriously, and I encourage others to not text and drive. I also tell my family and friends to be safe on the road and plead with them to not do anything that would distract them from not focusing on the wheel of the car. We have to focus on these types of efforts with care and concern because we do not want someone’s life to be shortened because of an accident that could have been prevented. Furthermore, I do not drive when I am tired or feeling very sleepy. People are not getting enough rest before they sit behind the wheel of a car, this has become a problem in this work-focused society.

Additionally, accidents will always happen, and people are going to ignore the parameters of safety. However, we cannot stop advocating for safe driving. We cannot allow some challenges to deter our efforts in making the world safe to drive in because the joy of driving belong to all of use. I plan to always put safety first in order to protect my family, friends, and community.
