Drivers Education essay
Driving education is extremely important in reducing the number of deaths because of driving. This course teaches students several skills to prepare them to drive safely. Some contents include traffic laws, driving techniques, and driving responsibilities. Students learn about traffic rules including speed limits, traffic signals, and road signs. They learn how to operate a vehicle, such as how to start and turn off the vehicle, turn, and park. This course is especially helpful regarding learning how to parallel park. They also learn about the importance of being a responsible driver, including limiting distractions while driving, staying sober behind the wheel, and following the speed limits.
Several steps can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving. These include strict law enforcement, advanced driver training, improved infrastructure, Pedestrian safety, speed limits, intersection management, distracted driving laws, seatbelt enforcement, vehicle inspections, drunk driving prevention, and helmet laws. Enforcing traffic laws sends a message that violations will be strictly dealt with. This discourages dangerous driving, leading to increased safety on the road. Providing advanced driver training can help drivers develop the necessary skills to practice safe driving. This can include training in defensive driving techniques, hazard perception, and emergency maneuvers. Improving infrastructures can include installing more traffic signals, improving and adding more road signs, and creating more bike lanes and pedestrian crossings. It is important to implement measures to control speed. This includes adding speeding cameras, reducing speed limits, and using traffic calming measures. It is important to implement laws to discourage distracted driving. This includes banning the use of mobile phones while driving and imposing penalties for distracted driving. Implementing measures to manage intersections includes installing traffic signals, improving road signs, and creating designated turning lanes. Seatbelts should always be used even if driving a short distance. You never know what will happen regardless of your driving destination. Having consistent vehicle inspections can help to catch any faulty mechanisms in the vehicle before a major accident occurs. To enforce drunk driving measures, there should be regular checkpoints to check drivers, and any unusual activity on the road should always be reported to law enforcement. Helmet laws for cyclists should also be implemented. If an accident were to occur with a cyclist, wearing a helmet could save that person’s life. Cyclists who refuse to practice safe driving are more likely to receive brain injuries from accidents. All these steps can be taken to reduce the number of deaths due to accidents.
The thought of being in an accident can be very stressful. This is why some people, like me, are overly cautious on the road. When I was 21, I was in a major accident that totaled my car, broke my pelvis, and caused me to be hospitalized for four weeks. However, my accident was not caused by me, but by the driver of the other vehicle. They were speeding down a hill, going 55 mph in a 35-mph zone. After I had checked to ensure that I was safe, I started to pull out on the road. Even though I didn’t see anyone seconds before pulling out, they were on top of me as soon as I pulled out because they were going too fast, and I didn’t see them in time. When I saw them, I tried to speed up to get out of the way, but they swerved into the lane I was getting in and hit me on the driver’s side, pinning me between the driver’s door and the middle console. I was unconscious for an hour before the paramedics arrived. They had to use the jaws of life to retrieve me from the vehicle, and then I was airlifted to the hospital. The paramedics told me that my accident was so bad that they were shocked that I made it out alive. This is an example of why speed limit laws are in place and why people should abide by them to keep themselves and others safe on the road.
Some steps that can be taken to be a better and safer driver are to follow the rules of the road, always be cautious, and always be aware of your surroundings. Make sure to turn all electronic devices off or on silent mode to prevent distractions. Be courteous to other drivers so that they will have no reason to engage in road rage to cause an accident. Implementing all these steps can help people become better and safer drivers.
