Driver Safety
It is more dangerous to drive than to go to war. Although getting a license and starting driving for someone who is a teenager may be the door to freedom sounds great, it is also important to know that the teen can die in a fatal car accident. There are many ways to prevent not only teens but for adults who have years of experience driving to become safer while driving.
The first step to becoming a safe driver is taking a drivers education course. Although states like Texas require anyone under 25 to take a drivers ed course, there are a whopping 19 states in the country that don’t require any education at all. Although these states may require for many to take a written test and/or road test, I still think that someone needs to take drivers ed to fully be aware of the rules of the road. It is always a good idea to those who have experience driving to be knowledgeable of any changes or additions to laws of driving. I took a drivers ed course online for my license recently and although I thought my parents had shown me all the rules of the road, there were many (not only tricks to being a good driver such as parallel park) teachings that I did not know and were helpful. To this day these teachings not only help me be a good driver but also a safe driver to myself and to those fellow drivers around me as well. This safety means less accidents and less accidents lead to lower death caused by accidents.
Other steps that anyone can take include putting one’s phone down when driving. Study shows that a significant number of accidents occur because of distractions. Which includes using your phone. Other everyday things that anyone does which falls under distracted driving is car technology ,people in your car and even eating. Car technology includes the radio which if you keep on changing the channel or song can distract your vision and ears from the road which can lead to accidents. Another is noise from people in your car, yes your friends can distract you by playing with you while driving and if one’s family is being loud. Which can distract the driver, so it’s best to have as few people in your car even if the car is a 9 seat minivan. Eating can distract you, yes even eating can distract you. Just imagine you’re in your car eating that delicious burger from Mcdonalds and your drink spills and you reach to the floor to pick up the drink and boom! You hit a car because you were distracted picking the food that fell while you were eating. These are just a few examples of everyday distractions that occur while driving. So it’s best not to do any of these things and other movements that distract you while driving.
People who aren’t driving can also help those driving become safer and prevent from causing accidents too. Such as people who are in the passenger seats help the driver by letting them know not to get distracted and talk to them casually in order to prevent the driver from becoming sleepy. These passengers can even correct them if the driver tries to look at their phone. Simply letting the passenger answer the message for you or keeping an eye on the road along with the driver in case the driver does not see that part of the road. Even those who aren’t in a car can help. Those who are bikes can use a flag that’s colored orange to let the driver know they are there or a light when it’s dark. These people can use hand signals to let the drivers know what they are going to do. If people are walking they should always look both ways before walking or always try to make eye contact with the drivers so they are in agreement for who goes first. All of this can help prevent deaths by car accidents.
I have seen many relatives take dangerous risks while driving. Even the smallest risk can cause an accident. Such as one of my parents not using the turn signal while making a turn or changing lanes. I have a brother who has been stopped by police for speeding. There is a reason why the fast and furious films are filmed in studious and use stunt doubles. Because driving over the speed limit is dangerous and a life risk. We all know the sad case of Paul walker or Brian in the fast in furious film who tragically died in a car accident. The car accident was caused by the loss of control of the vehicle while SPEEDING. We should always follow the rules of the road even if it does not seem it will hurt anyone at that moment.
Although I have never been in an accident myself. I know that if I use these tips and others use these tips we can prevent car accidents. In preventing car accidents we can prevent deaths and lower the death rate caused by car accidents.
