Awareness Brings Life

Higher awareness of traffic laws, well-rehearsed safety precautions, and extra practice are all aspects of driver’s education that reveal that a good knowledge of driving can be life-saving. Without having this knowledge of how to drive or obey the traffic laws, civilians can put themselves and others in lots of danger. Additionally, having a good understanding of what to do when you find yourself in an accident or on slippery roads, can preserve someone’s life. Those rapid responses to danger may even prevent an accident from happening in the first place. So, for this reason, it is important to have a good amount of practice, to be equipped to traverse the dangers of driving. Someone with a good driver’s education can reduce the likelihood of death by car.

Being aware of the traffic laws in your state is one big way to minimize the number of deaths that are related to driving. Getting a good, grounded education on the way one should drive, is important. Being able to read road signs, traffic lights, and right-of-way, are just a few examples of important traffic laws. By not having a clear understanding of these, drivers may find themselves in accidents by not properly obeying a right of way or sign. So, to reduce accidents and collisions, be sure to understand the traffic laws of the state or even country, that you are in.

Other measures that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths on the road are emphasizing the importance of being focused and extra practice. Drinking and driving or driving while on the phone are two large reasons why so many civilians are killed on the road each year. Implementing safety features in the car that warn people of their surroundings or if they are drifting into lanes is one way to reduce the chance of having an accident. As for drinking and driving, continuing to emphasize and educate teens and adults on the dangers of it, is one of the best ways to decrease reckless driving. Additionally, putting in the extra practice of driving with an experienced driver, can lower the odds of a person making foolish mistakes. It is important to feel in control while driving, especially in highly stressful situations. So, having good amounts of practice can boost that confidence and help reduce that stress.

Experiencing a crash, even a small one, can be terrifying. There was one time, my father was driving in the streets and a man had zoomed past us, bumping into the side of our car. Everyone in the car was pretty shocked by the experience. No one was hurt and only a little damage was made to the car, but the experience was still eye-opening. The man who bumped into us was in a rush and wasn’t paying close attention to his vehicle or his surroundings. For these reasons, he ended up hitting us. This is why it is very important to know and be able to drive carefully on the roads. If the car had hit us at a slightly different angle or was just a little faster, then the accident may have ended up more life-threatening. Either way, driving safely on the road is important and valuable.

Knowing the dangers of reckless driving, there are a few things I do to make sure I am a safe driver and a good passenger. First, if there is ever a question I have about road signals or signs, I make sure to ask passengers in the car what it means. Clearing up any confusion about traffic laws is an important first step to being a good driver. I also make sure to rid myself of any distractions, whether that be music, my phone, or even a conversation with a passenger. If I am in a tense situation and I cannot concentrate, that is dangerous. So I put aside distractions and focus. Another step I take to make sure I am a safer driver is being defensive instead of offensive on the road. If someone disobeys a traffic law and doesn’t stop at the stop sign, I will stop even if I have the right away. I would rather keep myself and my passengers safe than confront the driver. I try my best to be aware of my surroundings and follow the traffic laws as best as I can. One last step that I take to help others be safe on the road is that, I, as a passenger, remain as vigilant as the driver. If I take notice of possible ways that an accident might occur, for example, ice on the road, or a crazy driver, I do my best to warn the driver of the vehicle. Also, if I ever notice the person on the phone, I make sure to tell them the dangers of texting while driving and try to help them with their needs. If they need to get directions, I pull it up on my phone, if they need to call someone, I do it for them and put it on speaker. I do everything to make sure the driver has both hands on the wheel and their full focus on the road. Altogether, these steps help me be a safe driver and a well-protected passenger.

In conclusion, to make sure one is safe on the road, one must be aware of all traffic laws, have lots of driving practices, and be able to execute the necessary safety precautions. The more knowledge and experience you have on the road, the better driver you can be. Not only will you be able to keep yourself safe, you can keep your family and others on the road safe as well. With the help of practice and good education, the likelihood of death while driving decreases. Driver’s education is more than important, it preserves life.
