Stay Alive on the Road
The importance of driver’s education is to educate the youth/ young adults about the safety of driving and all the requirements of driving. Teaching drivers’ education prevents from the possibility of crashes or any accidents that could occur. Driver’s education teaches young what right looks like and how to be safe on the road. Young drivers must learn need to learn about seat belt usage, avoidance of impaired driving, distraction and speeding are all emphasized in driver education to reduce accidents and fatalities. Driver’s education is proven to save lives on the road. Training teaches students how to understand traffic laws, road safety, and defensive driving techniques. Learning about seat belts reduce the risk of fatal injuries by 45% for front -seat occupants and by 60% for rear-seat occupants. Driver’s education promotes and reinforces seat belt usage.
The steps that could be taken to prevent the number of deaths related to driving is staying off your phone while you drive, and not drinking while intoxicated with any substances. Dangers of driving while being on your phone cause the driver to be distracted from the road and could potentially cause them to crash. Driving while intoxicated can cause our reaction time to be a lot slower than a person who would be sober, and it also impairs the driving of the driver which is also another cause of death on the road. Before driving if it is best to have a positive attitude and pay attention of what is going on around you. Always wear your seat beat no matter where or how far you are going in the car; everyone must be buckled up. Try to limit how many people are in the car with you to limit distractions. You can drive less during the night because the risk of fatal crashes are three times higher in the evening. Don’t drive in poor weather conditions if you don’t need to.
I’ve never been in a car accident but one of my friends has been in a car accident when she was 13 years old which was caused by a drunk driver. My friend was in the car with her mom, dad, sister, and brother when the accident occurred. She was driving back home after a long day at grandma’s house for Christmas. The time was 9:56 pm when they noticed a car behind them swerving but they didn’t think nothing of it. So, the car started to get closer as time went by. My friend started looking into the rear-view mirror and noticed the car was getting closer and closer. Suddenly everything became pitch black and all she could hear was sirens. The car had turned out to be hit so bad by the drunk driver that it flipped three times. She was starting to cry and tried looking around for her family, but she felt so weak. Lots of sound of sirens and flashing lights all coming from the police cars and the ambulance. Suddenly she’s been pulled from the car and was taken to the hospital. After finding out what happened she was worried that her family didn’t make it but all she ended up with was hurt or had broken bones.
The steps I could take to be a better driver is to follow all the rules of the road and follow the rules of driving. Always get enough sleep before driving and if I feel tired then don’t drive. Before I start driving, I should check the vehicle to make sure it is functionable for the road. When I get in the car, I should make sure I have I have my current driver’s license, registration, and insurance. Check my mirrors and seatbelts to make sure they all work. Make sure to use child safety seats, safety belts and motorcycle helmets, and reduce alcohol impaired driving. Once you are on the road you should pay attention to all the signs and the drivers on the road. Stay off the phone and don’t play with the radio either. All distractions should be avoided. So, I learned to drive sober, know my limits, pay attention to the roads, drive with the flow of the traffic, and drive predictably. My mom says all the time “Stay Alert, Stay Alive” which is the Army way. If you want to stay alive you must be aware of what others are doing not just yourself on the road. You must make sure that you know what you are doing as well. Extra education about driving is not the worse either extra training or skills.
