The importance of driver education

Driver’s education is important for many reasons. Driving requires multiple skills, laws, and safety precautions that must be taken for best results. There are driving schools out there that teach young teenagers under the age of 18 what they need to know and get them behind the wheel for practice on the road. Every state has its set of laws that must be followed, along with rules with drivers licenses, who is and isn’t eligible to drive, and other important things to ensure safe driving.

What is the importance of driver education in reducing the number of deaths as a result of driving? There are many different things a driver has to constantly be aware of while driving, and driver education teaches these things to new drivers. Some things that need to be kept in mind are road signs, watching your speed, street lights, stop signs, other drivers, being prepared to brake, and listening for things like emergency vehicles. In driver education, they have videos explaining why it’s important to know different safety precautions and what it can look like if a driver gets distracted, leading to an accident. After the in class lessons, students then go behind the wheel with an instructor who helps provide guidance, allowing the student to have real practice on the road, allowing for a feel of driving and seeing how they do.

What steps can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving? Taking a driving school can help as it allows students to learn what they need to know about driving, and it also allows for students to experience driving with an instructor. If a driver is over the age of 18, they can practice on their own and have someone else help them drive. Doing research and taking online driving tests can help students and drivers learn the information required. Practicing with an experienced driver can help too. Starting off in an empty parking lot is a great way to start as there is room to learn how to maneuver the vehicle. Taking it slow at first is important in order to prevent losing control. When on the road, whether with an instructor or other licensed driver, keep your focus the whole time, listen to what they say, and don’t allow yourself to lose control or be too confident. With driving, it’s easy to be nervous and sometimes lose control, meaning it can lead to an accident. With being too confident, it can lead to not paying attention to things like signs, speed limits, other drivers, and doing other things that can lead to an accident as well. It’s also important to understand how to drive safely and responsibly through avoiding distractions such as the radio, having too many people in the car, eating or drinking, and using your phone. It’s easy for drivers to think they can multitask while driving, but if you’re not paying attention, it can lead to getting in an accident. Wearing a seatbelt is very important as it can help to prevent flying through the windshield in a hard stop.

Have you ever had an experience of being in a car accident or have you seen your friends or family members driving irresponsibly? I have had some incidents, but nothing major. I was shifting into a left turn lane when someone behind me was in the lane and I hit them. They must not have noticed because they didn’t come up to me. I have hit a rock in a front yard, which caused minor damage to my car. I have backed into a friend’s grandfather’s truck. I learned that my backup camera can be misleading and I got too close to the truck. He didn’t charge me as his truck was fine. My friends and family drive pretty safely, but my brother and sister in law don’t wear seatbelts, which is important. I didn’t always wear my seatbelt, but now I always do as it’s not safe to not have it on, and while it can be uncomfortable, it makes me feel safe.

What steps can you take to be a better and safer driver as well as help others become safer on the road? I can work on making sure my radio isn’t too loud, my seat is properly set, if I have someone in the car, try to stay focused whether I’m talking or they are, don’t touch my phone, watch my speed, be constantly aware of other drivers, signs, and other important things, and making sure I stay within the lane. I can help others by making sure I don’t talk to them too much, making sure I don’t sing too loud, making sure to be aware of what they are doing, looking out for things the driver might not see, tell them about things that have happened to me in the past, and make sure if any mistakes are made to tell them everything will be alright. I can also make sure to better myself as a driver by making sure I take anything I mess up on as a way to improve and hopefully prevent it from happening again.
