The importance of safe driving

One of the biggest things a teenager looks forward to is getting behind the wheel and driving on their own, but driving isn’t just the gas pedal and brake, it’s a big responsibility that can affect others around us. It is important for drivers to get education about road signs and proper knowledge when on the road. Educating yourself can help you become more aware and understand how to drive in all kinds of areas and different conditions. As drivers, deaths can be reduced with extra precaution while on the roads. Taking extra driving-related courses can be beneficial to us allowing us to prepare for what obstacles come ahead on the road for example, limit driving at night because it’s harder to see your surroundings and limits the risk of coming across drunk drivers. Along with drunk drivers, make sure you stay sober on the roads and never get in or behind the wheel if you or a friend have been drinking. A responsible driver is one who follows traffic laws and obeys speed limits making the roads a safer place. In addition, ensure that everyone in the car is wearing a seat belt for their protection in the car.

An example that has affected my life has been in the early morning, driving my Mazda 3 to school not knowing that my car would be totaled that morning. I had rear-ended the person in front of me, while my car had severe damages to the front and side, Luckily, I had no damage to myself and the people around me. The accident that happened to me opened my eyes and showed me to look out for the little things like stop signs and putting the cell phone down and away when driving on the roads. A car accident like mine would have had me end up in a hospital severely hurt but because of the use of my seatbelt, it saved my life by keeping me strapped in and kept me from flying out of my vehicle.

Uncareful driving cannot just hurt yourself it can also damage your loved ones from careless driving. An accident can happen in the blink of an eye, practice looking out for others and their actions like blind spots and distance between you and others because you never know when another person will break unexpectedly. A way to become a better and safer driver is to stay calm even when it is hard, this helps you focus on what’s ahead of you. As so, being anxious or eager to switch lanes or turn is a common thing, staying calm helps you make careful decisions that could make or break you. An example that has occurred to me in this situation has been my parents, my dad specifically. When driving he gets irritated about other people’s driving, his actions not only affect everyone in the car but also affect the cars around him. For example, if somebody was going slow and my dad tried switching lanes out of frustration, he ran the risk of hitting a car in the coming lane and possibly injuring people along the way. A calm and patient driver gives you plenty of time to reach your destination without being rushed. Therefore, having a plan allows you to avoid traffic, choosing the best path to take with the help of avoiding delays.

Learning to become a good driver isn’t just all these things it comes within as well. Proper driver education teaches confidence, in learning how to merge into highways and switching between lanes creating a more relaxed feel behind the wheel. Proper knowledge and responsibilities of driving including traffic management and violations such as speeding and driving under the influence. Although finally getting behind the wheel can be an exciting step into your life, it is so important to keep in mind that your driving can affect other people on the road as well as yourself. The death rates for driving are high from distracted, irresponsible, reckless drivers. In all, driver education is not a requirement but an important step in making sure the roads are a safe place. It equips drivers with the correct skills and knowledge to understand driving situations and rules. Taking the time to understand driver education, can reduce the number of accidents and deaths creating a safer environment for everyone. Therefore, it is important to contribute to responsible driving leading to fewer disasters and a more stable road for everyone.
