The Importance of Education in Driving

Living in a city where the number one form of transportation is by car, it is crucial that drivers understand and avoid the risk of death or serious injuries caused by car accidents. The fatality rate of car accidents increased by around 8% from 2020 to 2021, and the percentage of these fatalities, caused by car accidents, continues to increase each year. Although learning to drive seems like an exciting time, it is also crucial to understand the seriousness of avoiding injury and accidents while on the road.

Having taken part in driver training, I understand the amount of learning and safety required to be a good driver and how one slip can cause crucial damage to someone’s life. These training sessions should be crucial for a first-time driver, as they not only teach you the importance of signs and the rules of the road but also ways to avoid an accident that could lead to death caused by you or someone else. This type of training doesn’t have to be conducted solely during a one-on-one session; it could also be conducted in a classroom or workplace. These sessions would inform drivers about the risks of the road and how to avoid collisions, in a familiar setting. This education could include a slide show of the results of larger and smaller collisions and ways to deal with a post-collision. Having access to this form of education could increase drivers’ awareness while on the road and ensure a safer community of drivers.

Having taken part in a parking lot car accident myself, caused by a lack of awareness, I now thoroughly understand the huge consequences that can occur without proper education. In this incident, the pedals were mistaken for each other while parking, causing cars to collide and this accident to occur. Knowing that cars are pretty much made to crumble in accidents to absorb the shock, the bill that even the damage of the smallest accident caused gave us a shock in itself. It is also very important to understand your wrongdoings and take responsibility for what you have caused, to learn from your mistakes and avoid a similar collision in the future. Now I can understand not to drive when feeling lethargic or tired With more education about accident prevention in parking lots, this event could have never taken part and disrupted the lives of both me and the other driver.

Although accidents are called accidents for a reason, there are always ways that I can avoid these situations and be a safer driver to avoid potential deaths or serious injuries. Awareness is a huge factor in driving, and if not practiced, could cause major accidents and problematic situations on the road. Looking left and right for cars that fail to stop at an intersection, whether I have the right of way or not and reacting safely to these cars is a great way to avoid collisions and increase the safety of other drivers. Another factor that causes many driving accidents is the lack of noticing pedestrians. To ensure a pedestrian is not crossing, I always examine crosswalks and start stopping more in advance to ensure the safety of all pedestrians. To avoid collisions and assure my safety and the safety of other drivers, it is always a good idea to leave room for reckless drivers and back away to avoid a collision. To ensure the safety of my friends and family while driving, it is crucial to acknowledge and take action by letting them know when you feel unsafe or when you feel that they should pay more attention to the road. Although it may be tough telling someone that you love that you feel unsafe, this will always ensure that they pay more attention and encourage better and safer driving habits. With automobile technology continuing to get increasingly more advanced, it is important that governments start to acknowledge these new technologies, such as automatic braking systems and enforce mandates to enforce these systems in all cars. This would significantly reduce the number of collisions while on the road and allow a technology that can be trusted without worrying about injury or deaths caused by these car accidents.

With increasing fatality and injury rates caused by car accidents each year, it is crucial that we, as drivers, take action to reduce these numbers and build a safer community. As I continue to strengthen my awareness while driving, I hope that others can learn from their mistakes and pay more attention while on the road to shift these increasing fatality rates and create a safer driving environment.
