Driver’s Safety & Implementation
Automobiles are one of the most revolutionary tools humans created. With every creation comes a responsibility and that is no different for vehicles. The importance of driving relies on the ability to properly exercise safety when operating motor vehicles. education is the more educated and aware people are, the more likely they are to adopt good habits. It only takes a single negligent driver to cause a life-altering catastrophe. To mitigate losses, it is necessary to speak on the dangers and responsibilities associated with transportation such as thinking about others, limiting phone usage, refraining from driving under influential substances, or being aware of your surroundings when operating a motor vehicle. Knowing the nuances can help inexperienced drivers and existing drivers who may have outdated knowledge about current safety measures.
Teaching driver education does not only have to apply to legal drivers. Children can also benefit from knowledge that comes from it. The key is repetition. The more children hear about content related to vehicle safety and awareness the more likely they are to remember when they come of age to bear such responsibility. It can be compared to the same strategy advertisers use such as in fast food. You may not be aware of the repeated exposure, but when you are hungry the name of the establishment is the first thing to pop up in your brain. This principle of thinking can be used to spread awareness to a wider audience of individuals instead of the limited demographic of young adults, adults, and seniors. Stricter standards can be implemented to keep current drivers seasoned. Standards such as yearly tests involving aptitude tests about the general knowledge paired with the physical driving test that is taken before receiving a license, but more frequently. Incentives or rewards can be given to encourage drivers to keep safety a priority like how insurance companies may charge a lower rate for individuals with a history of good behavior and responsibility.
What makes me so passionate about safe driving is the many accidents that I have seen that could have been prevented. I love cars wholeheartedly and it is easy to get distracted by the entertainment they provide, or the comfort. Most of the accidents that I have seen happen are due to a lack of awareness. A particular accident I witnessed occurred around the age of seven. Me and my father drove to a tire shop to get his tires aligned and weighed. Whilst the transaction was occurring a car flew down our street and hit a parked car. Luckily, no one was hurt but the fact remains that at such a high rate of speed, something devastating was bound to happen. Not only was the driver irresponsible, but he potentially could have caused harm to others due to negligence. That incident showed me as a child that there are Individuals who are not fit to operate a motor vehicle. Another incident occurred at the age of 15. The transportation I took was the city bus called the WRTA. Whilst on a route the bus I was on was t-boned by an oncoming vehicle coming off from a stop sign in a hurry. The driver of the car was relatively mature in age. No one in this instance either was hurt. This shows that someone’s age does not always reflect their driving capability and that everyone can learn about safety.
As a relatively new driver, there are several steps I can take to be the best I can be. First is making sure I understand the safety before even operating the vehicle such as seatbelts, airbag deployment, modulating between pedals with one foot instead of two Operating vehicles in garages, etc. Then when operating I can keep my cellular device out of reach, use voice assistant, or use a steering wheel with a push or answer call button. Being aware of surroundings is a skill anyone can improve on and is even more important when involving moving at high speeds on interstate roads. Patiently driving to a destination is a must, as a lot of accidents are due to individuals in a rush to get to a destination. You must be alive to get to your destination. Following speed limits, abiding by traffic laws, being courteous to pedestrians, and understanding street signs are important as well. To travel you must have at least an understanding of the guide signs and route markers that will lead you to your destination. These methods will be the key to success in my future of responsible transportation.
