Everyone passes, but not by a car

When we talk about the importance of Driver education in reducing the number of deaths as a result of driving, I would say driver’s education is crucial in reducing fatalities on the road. It provides drivers with essential knowledge about traffic laws, driving practice and information about unsafe driving. Educated drivers will know the urgency of seatbelt usage, the dangers of being distracted on the road, and the need to pay attention to and abide by speed limits. People who take drivers ed are more likely to be safe on the roads, which lowers the death by driving rate.

There are many steps that could be taken to reduce driving related deaths. For starters, we could make online drivers tests monitored on zoom by proctors. I noticed a lot in my drivers ed class that I took in high school, many students were looking up answers during the test. After the test, students who had already taken the test shared how they took it online and passed from looking up the answers. Hearing that sparked a fear to drive in me, due to the fact many students cheated on their test. More steps I thought of were, road safety improvements which will enhance road conditions, improve signage, and adding more traffic signals or roundabouts to reduce accidents. Also, Bringing public awareness to those who were unable to take a drivers ed class. Educating the public about the dangers of distracted driving, driving under the influence, and speeding through Various media, could be very beneficial and save many people from death by driving

While I personally haven’t been in a car accident, My mom was in a car accident while on the way to pick me and my sister up from school. That moment was a scary time because of the suddenness and the fact that it was my mother. After my mom called my sister and told us to walk to the area she was at, I grew more and more scared; and because I was so young I didn’t really know much about car crashes, I just knew they were really bad. As we arrived in the area, we saw my mother’s car was destroyed but luckily she was okay and able to operate. The only pain she mentioned having was in the rib area and her neck was hurting a bit. The police were on the scene and they were asking a lot of questions to find out the cause of the accident. Turns out, the cause of the accident was due to the other driver not paying attention to the signs around her. The other driver was said to had been on her phone, and did not notice the yield sign in front of her. That moment opened my eyes because I felt like I just learned how reckless some people can be. Now, seeing how some car crashes turn out with people dying or permanently impaired, I can say that I am very grateful that my mother was able to walk away from that accident alive and able to function.

There are a couple steps I have come up with to be a better and safer driver on the road to prevent any deaths by driving. Practicing defensive driving such as, always being aware of my surroundings and anticipating potential hazards could keep a lot of people safe. Many people don’t take others into consideration when making a decision, so it’s best for me to be able to keep myself and others drivers safe by being aware of what’s going on. Limiting distraction like, keeping your phone out of reach, and encouraging passengers to prevent distracting and distractions themselves. Being distracted is a big cause of car crashes; keeping a distance between you and your phone decreases your risk of a crash. Many people love to tell other people how to drive, and some love to overtalk while someone is driving. Letting someone know about the dangers of their actions could also bring down the risk of a car accident. Leading by example on the road could encourage others to follow the rules of the road. Some examples of modeling good driving behaviors are, adhering to the speed limit, using your turn signals, and not driving under the influence. These are some of the steps I would use to become a better and safer driver.

Throughout this paper we have talked alot about driving safety, which is a very important matter. Due to me writing this I feel more educated on driving safety from the research I had done for this. I do believe that I will be a safe driver for myself and others in the future because I will use my new knowledge to the fullest, and pass it on to others.
