Driving safety

Many deaths happen while driving at all times of the day and year. Many people that die because of accidents are careless driving. Careless driving happens at all times of the day and all ages careless drive. Taking drivers ed courses can help because they know all the rules. Different rules applied than when a lot of our parents took the course. You also can take the drivers test with the person that gave you the lessons. Some people are overconfident and they drive recklessly. They might drive on their phones or drive faster than the speed limit. When taking a drivers ed course they can go over all these concepts. Some people also drive without seat belts which can prevent you from dying if you do get in a car crash. Drivers ed is up to date with all the rules and regulations and driving around will help you get familiar with the roads you drive on. They usually have a break on their side also so they can help prevent you getting in an accident there and then it would be a teaching moment.

There are many steps we can take to reduce people dying over reckless driving. If we have bluetooth or aux in our car we can pick up the phone with a button instead of testing or going on our phones to get their phone number. The phone can go in the back of the car where you can not reach it so the temp of going on your phone is not there. A lot of cars have cruise control so when the speed limit changes you can have cruise control on so you do not go over the speed limit. Also changing music a lot of times can be done on the steering wheel so you do not take your eyes off the road. Do not eat or drink when you drive so you can always have two eyes and two hands on the steering wheel.

Eat and drink before going on the road. If you have to stop and eat then eat before driving again. By knowing your surroundings you can also prevent crashes. If you do not know where you are going you might be going too slow or when a turn is coming up you might slam on your breaks and the person behind you might run into you. Always use blinkers so everyone knows where you are going. If you are doing makeup or hair and can not finish it before leaving you need to get up earlier because driving and doing it is putting everyone at risk including you. Do not ride too close to someone on the road if they quickly stop or turn and your too close you might run into them. Driving while tired or stressed is also bad because your focusing on something else other than driving.

Almost everyone has seen someone drive unsafely or driven unsafely themselves. I have never been in a car accident but I have been in a car where they are looking for music or answering texts or phone calls. That takes your attention away from the road and can cause you to crash and hurt other people along with you. You might swerve or be going too fast or slow then you cause an accident.

I can be a better driver by not going on my phone. I can change my music on my steering wheel and also answer calls on my steering wheel. I can keep my phone in the cup holder or in my pocket so it is not there to distract me. I can set cruise control so I am not going too fast or slow. When I get hungry or thirsty I can pull over and eat or stop along the way. Always making sure I have my seatbelt on and using my blinkers.

There are many things that contribute to reckless driving. There are also many things we can do to prevent it. We just need to take the time to educate ourselves and other people. We should sign our kids up for driver ed courses because then they will know all the rules that are up to date. We need to take precautions because you can end up hurting yourself and others and worse end up killing them. Then there are legal consequences also. Listen to the people that are telling you to slow down, wear your seatbelt or use your blinkers. They are all just trying to keep you and others safe.
