Steering Towards Safety

Driver education contains vital sources of information that must be targeted towards new drivers early on. Basic driver education teaches safe driving practices such as obeying speed limits, using seat belts, & avoiding distractions. Awareness of these practices aids in creating a foundation for stable habits & helps prevent accidents on the road. Educated drivers of these behaviors learn to anticipate & easily respond to potential hazards which may present themselves on the road. Well-trained drivers feel more confident and less anxious behind the wheel, leading to safer, more controlled driving. This would decrease the amount of collisions caused by poor judgment in dangerous situations. Better driver education also ensures drivers understand the consequences of violating traffic rules. Being aware of the consequences you may deal with later on will lead to better decision-making on the road, decreasing the amount of life-threatening accidents. Overall, comprehensive driver education equips individuals with the knowledge & skills required to reduce risky behaviors, thus significantly lowering the risk of fatal accidents on the road.

In order to reduce driving-related deaths, some steps that may be taken include increasing the spread of driver education, enforcing stricter traffic laws, improving road infrastructure, & promoting vehicle safety features. Implementing stricter traffic laws may include harsher consequences for those who are impaired, distracted, or speeding when driving. Wishing to avoid these consequences, individuals will be less likely to participate in any dangerous behaviors. Additionally, bright lighting, more pedestrian crossing zones, & clearer signs present on the roads may aid all drivers. Throughout certain areas, there are multiple broken lights which may cause severe accidents for those who are not paying attention. More crossing zones for individuals walking on the side of the road will lead to safer environments & less accidents. Individuals attempting to cross roads with high speed limits is dangerous & unfair. There should be more crosswalks near lights available for pedestrians who are walking alongside roads. In general, newer vehicles may benefit from technological advancements, such as automatic braking which may save drivers lives in sudden circumstances. When the car recognizes an unusually close proximity to another vehicle, the car will automatically brake. This would decrease the number of collisions that may have easily been prevented by quick reflexes. Of course, some individuals may be incapable of acting as quickly as others might in particular situations. Finally, public awareness campaigns, particularly around drunk & distracted driving, may decrease the number of fatalities. Teens may be less likely to drive impaired if they see the consequences of doing so first hand. Although these ideas may take decades to properly implement into society, starting now aids future generations on the road.

Personally, I had experienced my friends driving irresponsibly in the past due to them easily being distracted by their phones. While in the car with them, I felt incredibly unsafe & even refused to ride with some of them. Some of my friends barely even looked at the road when driving with others in the car. They would have their phone snatched out of their hand to finally pay attention to the road in front of them. I cannot imagine how many other young drivers acted the same way when driving, leading to extremely fatal accidents that may have been prevented by simply putting their phones down. Overtime, my friends have collectively become more mature surrounding this topic & have improved their behaviors on the road. I believe this to be the cause of a growing sense of awareness of how dangerous their behaviors were & becoming more aware of how the consequences may affect their lives. I am glad that my friends have matured, but there are still others on the road who participate in dangerous driving habits. These individuals must learn the importance of safe driving habits & change their ways to protect themselves and those around them.

In order to be a safe driver who keeps others safe on the road, one must always follow traffic laws, avoid distractions, and never drive impaired. Drivers must stay alert, especially in rough weather conditions where distinguishing the road in front of you may become more difficult. Additionally, doing regular maintenance on your vehicle is vital to ensure it is in good working condition. This ensures you, & other drivers on the road, stay safe. For those who have been driving for a while, you may encourage new drivers by teaching them safe driving habits, sharing tips, & overall being a role model on the road. Unsafe drivers must be regularly informed of the dangers of speeding, driving impaired, or driving distracted to avoid fatal accidents.

In conclusion, safe driving habits have to be more regularly implemented into the heads of new drivers to prevent future accidents that may have been preventable if they had been previously aware of the consequences they may incur.
